That's actually a great deal for Ottawa.
Bye-bye Ryan and Smith, hello Sergachev and Johnson.

Rangers and Vegas get (frank)ed over on levels I had no idea existed.
Taking Ryan on for a 2020 2nd and a 2021 1st
Callahan for a 2020 2nd and 2021 3rd

- SarthGnome

Johnson is an improvement on ryan....albeit a moderate one on terms of stats

Sergachev is a huge step back from Karlsson

Ottawa loses a good 3rd line center, and our draft picks get worse

HOW THE (frank) is that anything but an unmitigated disaster of a trade for ottawa. Not to mention that it would put them comfortably under the cap floor

Agreed, its not bad considering we ditched Ryan. If it werent for him, I'd expect Point instead of Johnson and a 1st as well.

How is it not bad....

Ottawa gives up:
Karlsson, Ryan, smith, and a 2nd

Gets
28 year old Johnson, sergachev, Nd a 3rd

That's AWFUL

Maybe not enough to pull the trigger, but Ryan's contract is messing it up. I'd exclude Ryan and ask for more. But Melnyk.

getting rid of Ryan's contract shouldn't have a negative impact on Karlsson's trade value......at least nowhere near what is being shown in that trade.

is the guy overpaid.....obviously. but given the contracts that are starting to be handed out, i'd say he's only overpaid by about 2.5-3 mil. the guy scored 11 goals and 33 points last year, with one hand, and missing 20 games. if he's even marginally healthy, he's a 15-20 goal, 40 pt guy easy.....which in today's game is worth 5 mil at least.

IMO, regardless of whether or not there is an extension or if Ryan is added......karlsson should net you at the very least:

young roster player, top prospect, 1st rd pick.

if he's extended.....add another asset or 2.

if ryan is included, maybe it's a slightly worse young player and ottawa takes a bit of salary (not quite as much) back.

you would need a very shrewd gm to get that type of return with one year left....if at all. but it's not likely to happen for melorion at the helm.

i think you under-estimate what it'll cost to move ryan. for the life of me, i don't get why he needs to be moved. seems like you can you use to get to the floor for a couple years.

I honestly don't think he will be moved.

as for the return.....look at teh return that RoR got, and he has a horrible contract and karlsson is SIGNIFICANTLY better. I honestly think the return i suggested is an underpayment for Karlsson, the guy is probably the best dman of his generation and he's still in his prime years.

sabres got an ok prospect, a 1st, a 2nd and 2 cap dumps.

a signed karlsson free of bobby ryan should get a huge haul. way better than the terrible ror return.

like i said:

unsigned - good young player, top prospect, 1st

so from tampa - foote, point, 1st or sergachev, namestikov (sp?) 1st

if he comes with an extension, i'd want sergachev, point, 1st, 2nd

namestikov is with the rags fwiw.

valuation is hard to agree on. but i think the over riding factor is melnyk's cheapness blows up the return.

i disagree.....he has to maintain the cap floor and losing Karlsson, Ryan, and likely Anderson means he wouldn't be there, unless like retards they massively overpay a plug like ceci......

so in conclusion, they'll probably massively overpay a plug like ceci, and ottawa will lose karlsson and ryan for peanuts.

really?? didn't realize that, i thought he still showed as being part of Tampa on the Cap Central page on this site. oh well.

a deal i would LOVE to see (although i know it wouldn't happen cuz it would be a Richard move by yzerman) is:

karlsson and ryan

for

miller, sergachev, 1st, 2nd

just something about Miller's game i love
