I hope Lou learned about analytics as well, and I’m not an Isles fan. They are useful, no doubt.
As far as the flat earth and climate change detractors, just shut up! No reasonable person believes the world is flat, nor do we believe the climate doesn’t fluctuate in cycles, and that humans have a detrimental effect. However, the amount and the remedies are in question. This is where the elites adopt policies to control and manipulate to their advantage. So again, let those debates for another forum. |

Nice article BD.
Honestly one of the better ones I've read in quite some time on this site.
Can't change the past, but the team does have a bright future. |

Besides protection and locker room personalities, he did address penalty killing because fear of playing hard and taking penalties is a factor. A good penalty kill as well as protecting a lead in the last five minutes is also a factor. Of course a goalie with a poor shootout pct is a problem etc.
As far as UFA's, maybe the guys with the higher analytic stats are more likely to sign with a top contender etc.
Analytics don't tell you how well a guy practices or works with his teammates since it is a team sport.
What did analytics tell PITT about how well Murray would perform if MAF were not on the team? |

BD, what does lou do about lee and eberle? if they don't extend them by jan 1 or before he has to trade them right? |

BD,
Very well written article. I think we need to see if this new young core of Bellows, Walhstrom, Dobson, Wilde and Toews make the jump to the NHL quickly. If they do, the future should be bright, |

Lou and Trotz thinking is that first you have to construct a more sound and disciplined game so when you do start to plug in the talent of JHS or Bellows that their offense will count. I would be concerned if they were trading away the young talent for vets, but the price of these UFA's who want the ice time and challenge is positive. Games should be entertaining.
VGK was constructed with analytics but Gallant was fired from FLA because he refused to play guys based on analytics. The game is a combo of both. |

Hmm.. site not letting me quote/respond properly.
Anyway... you are right on that. Had JT been retained there was simply no way on earth the Isles could have retained and re-signed Anders Lee.
So now we are faced with NEXT offseason being about re-signing them OR dealing them at or before trade deadline for key needs. |

Lou is good. Your organization is in good hands. As for the analytics thing it is worth pointing out that the analytics that teams are assembling are WAY MORE advanced and WAY MORE useful than simply talking about Corsi.
Onto the signing of Komarov and the trade for Martin...Both are slightly overpaid but Komarov is a very good penalty killer and he's a responsible two way player. Martin doesn't have offensive finishing talent but he isn't slow, he hits and he is not a defensive liability. You must know this, he played on a fantastic 4th line for the Isles for years.
These are good moves with very little risk...We're not talking big money contracts on ridiculous long terms... |

Just hope they use analytics or whatever to choose the next captain.
Everyone JT was close to either got traded or left as a UFA including JT himself. |
