Under 5 mil, pretty happy with that. Won't judge until we see how he plays with the team. But having that 6th year is good.

Treliving does it again!! I can’t see him NOT taking a step forward. Even if he is on the 2nd line Tkachuk and backlund are getting better every year and will be an upgrade on the lines he played on previously long term.

Not a bad deal. The length is a bit of a gamble, but could easily look brilliant if the kid keeps going the way he seems to be.

The new
¨Flames fom 80 Feet¨gives some pretty good incites as to how desperate the Flames were for a RH to take some draws and what it means for the big team.

should turn out to be a great deal for the Flames. We did pay some premium for his UFA years but that's OK.

I'm not sure it's worth an exclamation mark let alone two. It's a decent contract that came in at almost exactly what he was asking for. He also wasn't playing with chumps in Carolina. Pretty much all his time last was spent playing with Aho, Skinner, Teravainen, and Staal. They're not Gaudreau, but there's a lot of talent there and his linemates weren't holding him back.

He was playing as a top line centermen. Even in Carolina as a 23 year old playing top line min that's a lot of pressure.

I hope that now that he's signed under 5 million the fans and player expectations will be a lot lower allowing him to just play the game.

well its a genius signing if you just imagine that Chiarelli would have signed him to over 6mill for sure

In fairness to Aho, When Gaudreau was his age Johnny was still in College.

But yeah, I like Lindholm. I think he can be an effective player and the only risk I see here is the term. I don't know how much better he's really going to get, but I also don't think it's a contract that can really hurt all that much unless he suddenly falls off a cliff for some bizarre reason.

???? No he wasn't. Not really.

at 5v5 his most common lines were:

Sebastian Aho - Jordan Staal - Elias Lindholm =151 Minutes
Jeff Skinner - Elias Lindholm - Phil Di Giuseppe = 135 Minutes
Teuvo Teravainen - Sebastian Aho - Elias Lindholm = 95 Minutes
Jeff Skinner - Derek Ryan - Elias Lindholm = 86 Minutes

... anyway you get the idea. He'd take faceoffs and start the shift at C if Staal was on his offhand for the draw, but otherwise Lindholm mostly played RW or as a stopgap 3C.

I'm only comparing the Aho he played with to the Gaudreau he's potentially going to play with.

Yeah, I'm pretty much with you on that one. Seems like a mid risk, mid reward sort of thing that even if it doesn't work out the way you hoped, probably doesn't hurt you.

Kind of like Lindholm himself, really.

That's not how it works. Players usually feel more pressure from the fans after they sign big contracts. He has the pressure to prove he's worth the contract now.

I was even only bringing him up to show Lindholm got to play with some pretty good players in Carolina.

Gaudreau and Mony are better than every guy listed there.

The kid was traded for Dougie Hamilton, who was well regarded for his offence here. The pressure was already on him. This is a decent contract and hopefully helps push him to greater heights but not make him a potential goat because of a bloated contract.

It's not like he was the main piece of the deal. I'd say there's a lot more pressure on Hanifin than there is on Lindholm. Plus the addition of Neal takes some pressure off too.

Aho and Monahan are pretty similar talents at this point, but yes Gaudreau is currently heads and tails above the rest. Point was that it's not like Lindholm was playing with schlubs, and his production never really changed much regardless of his linemates.
