Giroux put up 100+ points and basically willed his team into the playoffs, but is not a top-5 winger...okay.

How is Claude Giroux or Phil Kessel not on anyone's list? What a joke...

Look at you 3 fan boys whining how the player on your team isn't on the list.

Pretty sure Giroux is a Centerman and Kessel a troll.

You do know that Giroux was used exclusively as a left wing this past year, right?

I don't think Giroux was a top-10 center the past 3 years, but if you'd like to tell me how he was not a top-5 EC winger this past year, please feel more than welcome to do so.

The top four of Ovechkin, Hall, Panarin and kucherov is a consensus here, and I think no matter who you included in this hotstove, those guys are in the top five in some order.

I put in Marner based on potential, but I would have put Marchand and then we'd all have had the same top five. You could easily include Giroux or even Stone. It's not like they're way down the list.

Giroux is listed as a Centerman, so he is a centerman. Sorry to say he wasnt a top 5 winger, because he is a centerman. And you do know Tanner gave one of those lists so I wouldnt worry to much or take it as the truth, because its Tanner.

Wow tanner. Marner? I’m a leaf fan but really. Point total no where near other choices you could have picked. And his defensive game doesn’t make up for those points. So please explain how he’s better. Oh he’s exciting. Must be one of those fancy advanced stats you love. His excitement per/60 is tops In the league hopefully his agent can convince the leafs to pay him Kucherov money based on the excitement level. 👍👍👍

Pretty sure I explained it in detail. "I am ranking him this high based on a combination of personal bias and potential."

How could I have been any clearer?

Trying to be nice here, even though clearly you don't really deserve it, but he's a left winger because he played left wing. Not to be a stickler or anything, but I don't think it's too crazy to suggest that the position he actually played in real life takes precedent over some website too lazy to change his position on paper.

But yeah, I am the idiot!!

I don't care how he's "listed." The fact was that he played 82 games as a winger last year. The Flyers deployed Sean Couturier as their top-line center with Giroux as his LW. This allowed Couturier to cheat at the dot since Giroux was capable of winning face-offs. That is why he went from averaging over 1800 faceoffs the past 4 seasons to under 1100 this year. Even when Couturier was injured, they moved other players into the 1C spot to keep Giroux at wing.

I'm not over here seething over it or anything, I just find it odd that no one listed him over a guy like Marchand is all.

Marner.
“I know he doesn’t belong but I hate following the herd like a sheeple so based on what I think he might do and equally weighted towards by bias, he’s the best.”

My eyes would glaze over and my brain smoke and fry if I gave any care to the drivel this moron Tanner provides.

Eastern conf wingers who are definitely ahead of marner

marchand, skinner, stone, giroux, kessel, kuznetzov

guys who are probably ahead or on the same level

huberdeau, pastrnak, aho (car), pacioretty, simmonds, plus a few more i'm sure i'm forgetting

marner is good, and will probably be a top 5 guy eventually........ but he's not even a top 10 winger yet, let alone a top 5......regardless of your bias

so what you're saying is you're ranking him that high, even though you know he has no business being ranked anywhere close to there.

that's like me saying that Thomas Chabot is a top 5 dman in the league....based on potential and my personal bias.....and despite the fact that guys like spatso actually probably believe that statement, it's ridiculous and completely false

Giroux played 82 games a LW last year while scoring 102 points so he is a winger and that Troll has 2 cup rings and put up 92 points last year. Want to talk about a fanboy look at that clown Tanner. Marner had 69 points last year and is somehow in the top 5???

Edit; I am a Pens fan that hates the Flyers and even I put Giroux above Kessel.

Mr. Tanner, you wrote an article this past season why the Caps should trade Ovi.

Enough said.

And you dont have to be nice to me. But I appreciate it.

So Tanner dinged Crosby on the Eastern centerman list because of his age and future decline then has no problem throwing a 2 years older Ovie in at #1 on this list...hypocritical much?

Well, this blog is 5 best wingers, not 5 best winger of 2017-2018. And I hate the Rat, but he does bring every style of play and is really good at it.

How many pests rack up the points? Most are avery style.

Its a list of the best wingers right now. Not in 2021-2022 so you post makes zero sense.

I like the Hotstoves because they really generate a lot of discussion from the diversity of opinions here. Just to put my two cents in the mix i'm gonna go with :

Hall
Kucherov
Ovechkin
Panarin
Marchand

Discuss.

For me personally he doesn't qualify as a winger.

He's a centre that played wing last season. Imo
