there will be a time this season that the Wings cant dress 20 players because they aren't cap compliant, guaranteed.

I have a feeling the Wings know Zetts will be out this season — in the press thus far it’s still being questioned. If that happens, 10 mil goes on LTIR between Zetts and Franzen.

unless the guy above is right about Zetterberg

you can't put every single player who gets nicked or has the flu on LTIR you know

I know this is a Larkin thread, but whatever happened to that yuge Preds deal in July? Is the wedding over yet?

They'll be fine cap wise. Franzen's nearly 4M comes off as LTIR. If Z doesn't end up on LTIR or his contract traded to Arizona, Nyquist is probably getting traded.

DET has been in cap hell for years and Franzen has been on LTIR for like 3.5 seasons now. This is not uncharted territory. There is also a seemingly very high chance Zetterberg is done too.

It would be nice if the NHL could remove the cap hits from the team instead of doing the LTIR thing, like Franzen will not play again (I don't think), why cant the league have him examined by a third party doctor and simply remove the contract completely?
Franzen would still get his money but Detroit or any other team wont be handicapped by a contract that wont ever be fulfilled by the player.

I would agree with you but I also think teams need to bear the burden of risk associated with throwing term around on every contract.

They do for any contract that starts when player is under 35. After that its the teams fsult for signing a 35+ player to a 4+ year contract

First, love the Larkin deal. Good I think for both sides. Larkin got better every game last season as you would hope. Definitely number 1 center material. Not the realm of Fedorov or Yzerman, but damn good. (Could be a generation bias for me, I know)
Question, every article I have read this summer seems to point to Zetterberg coming back. One from just a few weeks ago said that he hasn’t informed the Wings either way, but they expect him to play. Where is it being heard that it looks like he is done? Not doubting anyone, I’m just curious as to what I’m not hearing. Thanks

a little reminiscent of Selanne a number of years ago. He was on the fence about retiring and *after training camp* and a bad round of golf he phoned Anaheim to say he was going to play one more year.

Good reference. Perhaps he is waiting until the first days of training camp or right before. I hope he plays.

kenny said hes not sure. Zetterbergs training/workout has not been going well this offseason. His time is over though. He has been a warrior and its time for him and Kronwall to retire. Time for Larkin,Zadina,Mantha, Rasmussen to play more and lead the team.
