This is a good deal for both teams. VGK intend on making another cup run and the Habs get a really good prospect in Nick Suzuki. I've seen him play live a few times, the kid scores goals. Tatar is interesting because he's signed for 3 years, and he should provide 20-25 goals for Montreal. Consider that Calgary had to commit 5x 5.75M for the same thing from James Neal. Tatar also looked awful in Vegas, and may thrive in Montreal, but Both teams should be very happy with this trade. I approve from both sides.

All of that & let Neal walk & not resign.
Tatar deal was horrible & compounded it.
Disagree MaxBetts. McPhee squandered away gains he extorted at the e-draft. The Habs made out fine.

Good deal on both ends... Vegas will be happy with Max and they’re not really losing a ton from their prospect pool... still very deep.

Montreal obviously happy with Suzuki and the 2nd... they should be able to flip Tatar eventually...

At least the Habs can now move forward in whatever direction they intend without the distraction.

Hope my Sens can take a few lessons on asset management. The Hoffman trade should have gotten a similar return.

Great asset managing from the man who traded Erat for Forsberg. His colors are starting to show.

Attacking asset management of the guy who build a Stanley cup finalist in the inaugural season. Who has 3 third round and 2 fifth round picks for the next draft, and 3 second round picks in 2020? I think McPhee is doing just fine.

The Erat/Forsberg trade is a hindsight view of the trade.

Hoffman isn’t in the same class as Paches and was the source of some big issues in Ottawa. The returns are not comparable nor should they be.

Well yeah..? Assembling an expansion team is not the same as asset management. I dont take anything away from GM for building the VGK trough the draft, what he did was awesome. But they gained alot of picks (assets) from taking on salary and other teams stupidity.

Is it great to have three 3rd and two 5th? When they didnt have a first or a third this year? When you dont have a farm-system, those picks are really valuable.

This trade is not so bad, its the Tatar trade that he gave up 3 picks for. Panic move. These moves together and the fact that Neal walked makes all of this bad asset managment.

Oh, and Forsberg/Erat trade was bad right away. Forsberg was killing it in juniors/WJC.

This deal isnt horrible other than it masks the horrible deal Mcphee made to acquire Tatar. Mcphee paid that at the TDL (1st,2nd,3rd) to acquire Tatar, healthy scratched him for several games in the playoffs & then flips him out with other assets for a 1 year rental. Am I missing something, how is this good asset management?

Seems like he was just a cap dump in this trade which seems insane since they just gave up a 1st/2nd/3rd for him a few months ago. He’s 27 years old so I doubt he’s suddenly fallen off a cliff.

Watch the Habs flip him for another pick at the TDL

True, but the best way to fix an error is to move on from it, which he did...plus...not a rental. sucker.
