I believe vintage is referring to a parallel universe where Benning isn’t allowed to sign UFA’s for more than 2 years - Nucker101

I must have missed the memo where opposing coaches send out their top players to play against our shut down guys and only send scrubs out to play against all our rookies so they look good. - 1970vintage
Zone starts
Most decent coaches will send out their top lines for offensive zone starts, and they’ll play their checking lines for Dzone starts. Obviously neutral zone starts would be more difficult to predict as the road team with first change, but that’s inevitable.
And for home games and line changes on the fly, it’s pretty easy to line match |

It must be easy, otherwise us fans would be critical of coaching decisions in game and fill hundreds of pages with our bullit proof opinions. |

Remember that time AV tried to get the twins away from Chicago's checking line by keeping them on the bench in the third period.
And WD against the Flames in the PO. And having Dorsette on the ice down a goal late in every game. That is some favorable zone start data right there. |

Green did it pretty effectively, I don’t remember if Torts did, AV did once Gillis taught him how to.
WD ignored zone starts and it cost him the series against Calgary(contrary to popular belief that Ferland beat us, WD actually beat the Canucks)

Sorry, are you saying Desjardins was fired because the fans complained about him on Hockey Buzz, or because he didn't give Sutter enough O Zone starts to warrent the foundational price tag? |

I'm not arguing against zone starts. I'm suggesting that labeling Dahlen or Pettersson as top 6 forwards, therefore they will score a lot, while Sutter is a bottom six forward and will do the heavy lifting, sheltering, protecting is silly. You don't think Boeser is going to see Bergeron all night when they play the Bruins? |

No, he gave Sutter too many ozone starts. Giving ozone starts to guys like Sutter and Beagle is a waste, they’ll give you similar offensive output either way so why not give them a poopload of defensive starts anyway and give ozone starts to more naturally gifted offensive players who may or may not be as reliable defensively?
It’s common sense |

I’m sure he will see plenty of Bergeron and probably have a miserable time trying to score at 5v5 against Bergeron, but at least he’d have a fighting chance in that matchup if only 0 or 1 of his first 10 shifts against Bergeron involved a face off in his own end. Every small advantage adds up |

Just pick any of the forwards who aren't on that roster, plus one of either Hutton or Stecher. - 1970vintage

I was trying not to be too greedy, but both if you like, plus Eriksson, Gagner and I'll even throw in Gaunce if it will rally some more people to my side |

I would rather have Bobby Ryan and Adam Gaudette in the lineup than Beagle and Rousel, especially if it landed us an additional 1st or 2nd round pick.
Dahlen Pettersson Ryan
Goldobin Horvat Boeser
Baertschi Gaudette Virtanen
Gaunce Sutter Schaller
Archibald - 1970vintage
It would be cheaper, more effective and it would net us picks! I wonder if Benning would waive beagle or rousell? |

This is a parallel universe line up, where Beagle and Rousel weren't signed. In the real universe we're stuck with what we have for a little while longer. |

Much better..... thanks, although, expensive bottom centers. Move one to the wing, center depth it's still crap. |

every body hates on the Ryan contract but the guy can still play < when the Sens went to the east finals he was a very big part of that , people act like you are getting a total fail but he's no where near done |

I don't think anyone is saying he's done as a useful NHL player, it's more that he's a slow skating 31 year old coming off of an 11 goal season and making 7.25M for 4 more years, with a limited NTC to boot.
Plus he's like Vanek, Gagner and the Sedins. He needs PP time + easy 5v5 minutes to be effective, we'd rather see those minutes going to the youth. |
