Would be a deadly pickup for NJ. If they think they could sign him, why not take a swing?
Butcher + Zacha + Johansson
Something along those lines might work - AxlRose91
Go back to 1991 Montreal and start another riot there Axl!
Butch stays |

Wait...are you serious? If that was on the table right now, along with an EK extension, I'd do it and never look back. There's not even a debate. |

Why would anyone take Johansson as a serious piece in a deal? |

The pieces Todd mentions, while probable, to me are too much. And if Ryan is along for the ride, no way. Love EK, but if that is the price not heartbroken if it does not go down. |

How do you figure it's too much? Wood isnt going to put up 30g a season, McLeod is the same player as Zacha and up until now hasn't shown much, Severson is a good player but EK is an upgrade and a half and a 1st is not guaranteed. Adding EK would make us significantly better. |

Of course you would. It would be a steal for NJ. Karlsson is a generational talent. The idea of Will Butcher holding up that deal is laughable. Solid player, no doubt, but we’re talking about Karlsson

Butcher has 10 yrs of great hockey left, EK prob has a few more yrs before hes gonna decline.

I grew up in NJ. I love it. I will always defend it when seemingly everyone else makes fun of it. But this is a stretch. - jersey1414
Agreed. Anything can be a factor in a player's decision but realistically none of those things seem like real difference makers. At best there are enough good things about NJ that it could be a consideration. As worst the player doesn't want to come here. |

We joke that the "just give them more stuff" approach doesn't work and then Dorion goes and proves us wrong. |

I dont understand how that got it done. There is nothing outstanding there. I'd hate to be Sens fan right now. |

Well, after seeing what SJ gave up, it seems that we would have way overpaid. So I stand by my original post. |

I guess so. Idk how the Sharks pulled that off. They gave up more picks than any actual talent. Those picks dont guarantee anything. It must feel bad to be a Sens fan. |

Lol, it's moot now but still. Yes, I make that trade. You trade an unknown less skilled skater (Butcher) for a proven Norris winner in his prime. And yes, you throw in a guy with injury history and one year left on his contract, as well as a young player who hasn't shown any consistency at the NHL level. You do that and don't think twice. |

Not totally shocked. Ottawa was in no position to gamble and hold on to Karlsson, and when it becomes clear that he's leaving your negotiating power is greatly diminished. |

sorry for the spam, but this is a hockeybuzz league, after all, with hopefully Devils fans occupying the majority of the slots.
looking for some new managers for my 20 team, full rosters, no keepers, plenty of stats league. Draft is Sept 28th at 8/9pm EST. Inbox me if you're interested! |

Sure, I can agree with that. But they were still trading one of the best dman in the world...and to come up with decent prospects, decent roster players and a couple of late 1st round picks seems like a loss for OTT. I'd be completely disappointed in that trade if I was a Sens fan. |

The key is that EK is only a 1 year rental right now, tough to give a lot for that. Hopefully we will be in on the bidding next year, though I think like Taveras EK has his sights set on one team. |
