Garrison is worse than Russell. His skating knocked him out of the game 2 years ago; doubt it's gonna be any better now.

He'll provide some competition I guess for the youngsters during training camp. If he can muster something up, that's even better. Hypothetically, as mentioned above, if Russell can be offloaded (waives his NMC) and Garrison brought in at a lower cost at lower term (1y @ 1m), I kinda like that idea. Not likely to happen, but it is an idea.

Regardless, lots of question marks on this team going into this season. Meanwhile, quite a few of our division rivals only got better, especially SJ and LA.

Well the trade itself seems about on par with what I'd expect OTT to get given all the factors.

SJ was already pegged as a top team in the division so I don't know that it hurts us that much.

At the end of the day Ottawa and Dorion let too much drama go on for far too long. Ruined a lot of guys returns and potentially others that are left.

Pageau is the real winner today

- Lahey

This sounds about right.
OTT has really screwed themselves over, as expected with Melynk in charge.
Doubt Duchene and Stone stay. They are about as good as gone at this point.

I wonder how bad of a hit their attendance will take.

And lmao at the Pageau remark.

I dunno about that.

A core of Quick, Kopitar, Doughty, Muzzin, Kovy, and Carter will be tough to deal with if they play to their fullest of capabilities. I think secondary scoring may be their Achilles heel (unless Brown can maintain a production of even 40-50 points), but the acquisition of Kovy could minimize that if he plays in-form. Don't forget that they were playing without Carter for most of the prior season.

Regardless, age is their biggest factor in terms of their potential window. The avg age of that core is what, 32? Damn, that's old.

Biggest issue is goaltending.

Kuemper was amazing for them last year going 10-1-3. Now I know Budaj did well for them in 16-17, but if he plays the way he did last year in Tampa that could really hurt LA.

To move Russell and sign Garrison would simply be a further downgrade of our D corps. As we've discussed, Russell ain't waiving his clauses to go anywhere so there's no sense in discussing it.

I just looked at Quick's stats from last year and he actually had a higher save pct compared to previous years and a pretty good GAA. It's on him to continue doing what he is doing.

I also looked into how many games LA lost where the goal difference was 1 and it comes out to 18 (out of 37), with about 8 of those in OT. They lost all of their games in the playoffs by 1 goal too. Considering Quick had a relatively high save pct and low GAA, I think this may fall on the coach on being outcoached or secondary offense. Then again, this could mean nothing, especially without comparisons to other teams to standardize the data.

Nonetheless, you may be right. Budaj might be their biggest factor in how he plays in the games Quick doesn't.

It would be nice to move Russell's contract (which would be my main goal), but yeah, you're right, doubt he would actually waive his clauses, not to mention it would be an overall downgrade of our d corps.

As much as I'm not a fan of Russell's game nor his contract, he is actually a decent #5 when put in sheltered roles. Garrison most likely ain't that at this point of his career. Most likely a #6/7 and that's being generous. Then again, maybe he might surprise us during training camp.

Still worried about the Nurse contract. I don't want it to be an issue going into training camp.

Which Kopitar is going to show up ? Can Kovy still play in the NHL ? Is Jeff Carter a bandaid ? Is Dustin Brown capable of scoring at the same rate as last year ? Team has lots of question marks just like us.

Personally, I'd rather have those kinds of question marks than the ones we have. Regardless, I see your point.

Edit: Looked up Carter's stats from when he came back and it seems like he got back into the groove of things quite quickly.
