Can you imagine if the Penguins traded Crosby and got a similar return? Rutherford would get canned.
Unfortunately, Dorion has 3 more years and is probably the cheapest GM in the league. |

Well, it has been a number of very enjoyable years as a Senators fan, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to take a break away from this team.
I've been a supporter since 2002 (I was 11 at the time), and it breaks my heart to have to give 'em up, but I can't support a franchise that isn't trying to win. No team trades a 28-year old generational player for nothing unless winning is not a goal of the franchise. The only goal is to save money for Melnyk. Nothing else matters at this stage.
I will follow the Senators prospects and young players with interest, and when Melnyk leaves/dies, I may return to the fold. In the meantime, I'm gonna try to be a Jets fan. If I can't really get into the spirit of that, I will probably just stop watching the NHL. |

No matter how bad it gets, I will never go all in on this mentality. The Sens will always be my number one team.
But, the other teams I like may get more attention. I've been starting to really like the Bruins and Gaudreau. Pasternak and Gaudreau are fast becoming my two favorite players. |

So, does anybody notice the salary compression of the last 12 months. Methot (4m), Turris (6.0m) Brassard (3.0m), Phaneuf (7.0m), Hoffman ($5.0m) Karlsson 6.5M) , Gaborik ($4.8m) to LTIR. There are others reductions with very few salaries coming back.
This is all about money. Kind of hard to get a fair hockey trade done when a team only wants picks and moderate salaries coming back.
Everything that is happening is consistent with cutting operational balance sheets. It is not about hockey values. It is about creating a new financial foundation.
Not sure that Duchene or Stone are going to be treated any different than Methot, Turris, Karlsson et. al. And, they will figure out a way to move Bobby Ryan. |

I'm assuming he'll go rehearse that press conference you swore was happening, where he was selling the team to Cirque du Soleil, and Alfie would come on stage to announce the extension of Karlsson.

And I respect that. I was here on these boards for some pretty lean years, where the best part of the team was watching Volchenkov crush people, lol. It was fun supporting a mediocre team with a few other die-hards, enjoying the good moments even when they were few and far between.
To me, this is worse. I truly believe that Karlsson is only gone because the team didn't want to pay him, and made a choice. Not wanting to pay the best player in franchise history, trading him for dogpoop, that's not compatible with being a competitive franchise. I'm not interested in supporting a team that only (in my view) exists to serve Melnyk's financial needs.

Not possible. All the mortgage debt is controlled by the people wanting to move the Sens downtown. Big public meetings coming up on LeBretton. Look for the Melnyk role to be redefined with the finalization of the public financing.
I wonder if the push to move Karrlsson was so his status would not be a distraction from the redevelopment agenda of the next few months? - spatso
Oh my God - I just realized it:
You are still a Leafs fan.
This is just the most magnificent troll job on Sens fans.
You are the franking man, Spatso! |
