In this case the hockey judgement is entirely subordinate to the financial objectives. It is like people are pretending that Melnyk made a mistake. He made no mistake. He achieved his goals and left everyone else to debate details that are of minor concern to him. They did exactly what they wanted to do and everyone debating the merits of the trade misses the point. - spatso
You've been told this day was coming for 2 years now from multiple people. You wouldn't have it. Now you are telling people who already knew this 2 years ago. |

All the losers from Toronto here to post garbage...
Yet start crying of anyone posts on their blog.
Sens will be fine. Got what they could for a guy who wouldn't sign long term anywhere else. - kaptaan
Well I'm pretty sure they didn't get what they could and I'm even more confident that they won't be fine.
Ridiculous owner
incompetent GM

To be fair a deal is imminent.
It's been imminent since 2016. |

It's a dark day
Sens would've been on the losing end no matter what.
I don't really know any of the players coming our way, but I feel like it's quantity over quality.
Surprised Dorion would deal with Wilson after Hoffman fiasco.
To sum it up, our last 3 captains have left on awful terms. 4 if we include Yashin.

Hitting bottom is an end in itself. It is a process that corrupts everything around it. It can still get worse. But we are so far in it is better to see it through to the darkest point. I don't think anyone holds any illusions about redemption being possible as long as Melnyk pretends to chart the direction of this organization.
Important not to get angry about this deal. Much more effective to be disappointed. - spatso

Hey! I am cool. This only gets solved by crash and burn. The individual transactions do not matter. This is a tear down as part of a corporate transition. It has everything to do with financing, nothing to do with hockey. The sooner the tear down is complete, the sooner we can get on with an ownership group that actually cares about the community and the team. - spatso
Remember when we said ownership mattered, but you told us preseason games were more important?

What part of using the pick on Tkachuk (not even the best player available) instead of waiting for next year to pick Hughes is a financial decision, and not just idiotic asset management? |

I don’t get why they used that pick either. But most of the talking heads thought it was the right move. |

dude, this isn't just melnyk.
dorion and his incompetence take a poop TON of blame here.
prospects and players on ELCs all cost the same......it's dorion's fault he wasnt' competent enough to get a better return.
dorion is as incompetent as melnyk is a cheap, micro-managing piece of poop |

i still don't hate that they used the pick.
Tkachuk looks like he's going to be a good player, and ottawa could not win a single game all year an still have less than 20% chance at the first overall.
but i agree....it clearly wasn't a financial decision. i think dorion didn't realize how awful of a GM he was, and was counting on getting a better return for karlsson....one that would have seen them finish outside of the 3-4 worst teams in the league. |

Well...I did tell those Sens fans they would be dissapointed in the trade return, they were being unrealistic....but this is much less than I imagined.
I figured a 1st , an OK roster player and a top prospect, or a 1st, a medium prospect and a good young blue chip defender with a couple NHL seasons under him.

I don't hate that they used the pick either. Like you said, there's no guarantee Sens get 1st overall even with best odds.
The year we drafted Zibanejad we were projected to get the 4th overall and we were bumped down to 6th overall.
Not to mention this year moving down in the draft again!
All that being said..knowing Karlsson would be dealt this year..I don't know how we hold on to that pick knowing we're gna be a train wreck this season.
I know it's contradicting but you still wanna give your team best odds to get the best player in the draft |

There is only one thing left to do
Make them play in the empty stadium until Melnyk is forced to sell. |

agreed.
honestly, at this point, i'd rather the team just move, rather than have it stay in ottawa under current ownership. |
