To be fair, one does not simply walk into the Nucks defensive group. Not when you have the likes of Tanev (best player to never have won a Norris), Elder, Stetcher, Erik "Gudbranson for Marner and a 1st" Gudbranson, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La La and Woo - walshyleafsfan

there's only one issue with this assertion... guys like Stamkos, Hedman and Kucherov appear to be taken "home town discounts"... I'm not so sure that those guys would welcome someone all of sudden showing up and making 11-12Million.
In Toronto all kinds of ridiculous locker room controversies are bubbling according to the "highly esteemed" media hacks... why would Tampa be immune? While the tax rate is of course a huge determining factor... I don't suppose it affects controversies.
- BorjeFan4Ever
Kuch gets a 5 million pay increase next year and cap hit. Tampa is under the cap by 2.5 right now.
In order for Tampa to fit Karlsson's 12 million cap i, they would have to unload several good players. |

TB couldn’t afford him
The players that they gave NMC to take less money didn’t want to be traded...shocking. - Santo_44
Yes they can, they have 3 defensemen who become UFAs who total 11 million. Moving Killorn or Callahan or other players is still also possible. |

based on what Ottawa got from the Sharks - would you know admit that Nylander, Gardiner and 1st would be an overpayment? - BorjeFan4Ever
Nope. It's the cost of doing business with Ottawa. But it would have been the best deal for Ottawa and they probably would have taken it over the garbage they got from San Jose. And the Leafs would still be a better team because of it. |

So they'll go with 4 D?
Great.
Oh and sergachev will be getting a big raise the following year.
Kuch gets a 5 million raise and cap hit.
Paquette and Point will get raises.
Oh and Vasilevskiy will get a raise the following year as well. |

it won't respond.. Also, just a word of advice...
you know how when you go the Zoo, and you see a lot of signs that say "Please Do Not Feed The Animals." It's for a reason..
Adhere to it, as that same rule applies to HockeyBuzz.

Hedman, Karlsson, McDonagh, Sergachev (ELC) and two other ELC. They'd be fine.
Callahan, Killorn and even Miller (Yzerman signed him, he stepped down) could be moved too.
San Jose has plenty of 6-9 AAV contracts too and they even have space and plan to try and extend Karlsson. The cap goes up every year, teams still fit the best players in the league and it's still worth it to do it. If you have to have 4 or 5 ELC, that's fine as long as the guys getting paid are the actual best players at their position. |

What if Karlsson agrees to take less, so that he can play pirates with his buddy?
It's a scary thought. |

Even at 11, they can make him fit. If he takes 9 or 10, Tampa Bay is laughing all the way to the Finals. If they got Kucherov, a 100 point player, to sign for under 10, I think they know what they can and should do with Karlsson. |

Didn't you just have a whole argument, debating against yourself about the differences in RFA and UFA contracts and what leverage players have? |

At 25, Kucherov had arbitration rights and was a lot closer to UFA status than Nylander. Different situation, different circumstances. |

Seems like they're all at it.
Peter Chiarelli on Karlsson:
“I won’t lie. When he came to our division, there was an expletive coming out of my mouth. He’d be nice to have here, but we weren’t on his list. It was a non starter"

Which could very well be Tampa Bay which is a worst case scenario for the Leafs because they're already a better, all around team, adding Karlsson to that mix just makes them disgustingly good. - Unholy_Goalie
Meh, they'd need to move some salary Which removes a good player or 2 |

Gonna' need to top up the beer fridge.
Wifey just left for Indiana for the weekend leaving me with the dog, cat, my 15 year old daughter and three of her friends...
