Watched Powers videos from practice.

1. Crawfords workout was very methodical. Shots were kept on the ice, only 1 shooter and a very slow, deliberate pace...

2. When I saw Forsberg in net you had shooters at both circles and pucks were off the ice and the pace was much quicker.

3. Murphy out 8 weeks...when did this injury occur and could explain why he couldn't be dealt (failed physical) and Seabrook out 1 week with an ab injury (insert joke about lack of abs here)

Not a very good start to a trying season already for this team. Have to assume both 5 and 7's injuries are training related.

Take these early combos with a massive grain of salt. But here's what the Blackhawks are running:

Kunitz-Toews-DeBrincat
Saad-Schmaltz-Kane
Ejdsell-Anisimov-Sikura
Hayden-Kruger-Martinsen
Kampf-Johnson-Kahun

Keith-Jokiharu
Manning-Rutta
Davidson-Gustafsson
Dahlstrom-Boqvist

I had heard there was a chance that Q was going to try Kunitz and Toews together.

This is just minutes into camp... so don't react too much to this, but interesting to see what Q wants to try off the hop.

I hate almost everything about these lines except for line 2. I like the balance Saad could give Schmaltz-Kane.

But Kunitz was a replacement level 4th liner last season for a reason. That Kruger line will hardly ever be able to get out of the zone because neither wing can carry a puck or pass well enough to exit. Edjsell-AA would be the slowest line in the NHL.

D-pairing are fine.

Tough start to the season already with Murphy, Forsling and (most like likely) Crawford all on the shelf.

Amazing opportunity for guys like Jokiharju and Hillman.

- Justin Lowe

Exactly. The cautious optimistic I am, this could be a blessing in disguise.

Just saw the Powers vid, though, so that was very encouraging - full gear, skating smoothly (for a goalie), catching and shooting passes without bobbling! WOO, go Crow!

Hahaha - and "Corey Crawford" immediately jumps to the top trending spot for Chicago on Twitter. Think fans were worried?

Interesting info in the Powers/Lazerus podcast, Lazerus talks about Crawfords plane ride to Arizona back in February. Claims he knew some people on the flight and Crawford had his head in his hand the whole time, was uncomfortable and groaning and moaning. Well, poop

Hawks press release:
Connor Murphy out 8 weeks with a back injury
Brent Seabrook out a week with an abdominal injury
Gustav Forsling remains out after wrist surgery
#GoodStart

So I now believe Rocky sold soul to Devil to obtain Kane and Toews back to back and payment is coming due.

- pdx2ord

We knew about Forsling and Seabrook isn't a big deal as long as it's not a nagging injury. Murphy is a bigger loss and inviting Davidson to camp on a PTO makes more sense now.

The window of opportunity it wide open for Jokiharju and maybe even Hillman.

Ugh, I really don't understand playing Debrincat on his right. The guy has the best shot on the team and you want him in that left circle ripping one timers.

Debrincat maybe prefers the right - it's where he played the most over his career.

Here's hoping they went back to the drawing board to tweak this Blackhawks' system in a way that is more conducive to the skill set of the team on the ice.

That's what good coaches would do.

I'm not able to listen, but did they give any context to it?

Head injury? Breakdown of some kind? Something else?

Heard that. Would go a long way to explaining his reliance on his own medical team rather than the team’s if the latter sanctioned that trip.

Yes, this explains Davidson's PTO because he is closer to a Murphy type than Sbisa would be. He probably has a good chance to make this team now on opening night. And I have no problem with him on a one way contract as long as it can be completely buried in Rockford if he fails or can be easily traded if he fares well.

But, on another note, what a start to the season before the first puck is even dropped.

Davidson's scouting report per The Hockey News.

Assets:
Has the requisite size to play the National Hockey League game. Has a big point shot, so he can produce good numbers at lower levels. Can also play a physical game.

Flaws:
Needs to play with more consistency in order to maximize his talent at the highest level. Also needs to cut down on his mistakes with and without the puck in his own end.

Career Potential:
Decent, depth defenseman.

If Murphy will be out for an extended period I don't have an issue with the Hawks signing Davidson, as long as his cap hit be buried 100% in Rockford if needed.

Woah

From Laz

Kudos to the Blackhawks for changing their injury policy. They will, indeed, specify the injury rather than use the archaic "upper body" and "lower body" terminology. We'll see if that applies to Corey Crawford later today.

No just questioned the decision, “you don’t take a guy with a head injury and put him in a plane for four hours” “why was he on the plane in the first place”.
