Just stupid keeping him now. He gets a serious injury, misses alot of time, And you know now can't afford his next contract, His value goes way down. Trade him now and be done with it

And the word is out that he will be signing in NY. Why would anyone give top anything for a true rental , knowing he will be a Rag.

Unless CBJ falls out of the playoff picture, I cant see them dealing him at the TDL. Doesnt sound like Bobrovsky is likely to be back either

For someone who's said he wants to stay out of the negotiations, with what he has said, he's put the Jackets in a no-win situation. Unless he miraculously decides to stay - which would go against all indications to date - the Jackets hands are tied.
I say trade him now - as the clock keeps ticking toward the TDL, the price goes down, as does the leverage the CBJ may have.
I'm already tired of all the crap . . . and the season hasn't even started.

Ask any Islanders fan now... Trade the guy.

As one poster above smartly noted: if he gets hurt he might not be tradable at the deadline. To get zero for him AND to have Bob leave would put Columbus back in a familiar place - the basement.

I think there is value to a team going and getting him now. Give up a rock solid pick and an even better prospect perhaps. You own him. You can show him WHY he wants to play for you and why your franchise is so good. If he bails, fine but the fan base can't female dog.

As for CBJ - the idea of getting nothing for both players should be scary. It CAN happen and did with Tavares. It could again and that would be the front office's job to protect against.

Well, there's that whole thing of trying to win the Cup. They have a goalie who has a shot to win the Vezina, a defenceman with a shot to win the Norris, and a forward with a chance to win the Hart. Why would they trade him when they have a legit shot at the Cup this year with Panarin.

I would like someone to explain to me exactly why now is the time to trade Breadman.

Everyone on this board with the exception of a few Senators fans thought the team was completely fleeced in Karlesson (sp?) trade made just last week. If the Sens could only get junk for the best defenseman ever/last 20 years/in NHL currently (whatever time frame you wish to use), what makes anyone think the CBJ will get anything close to an even deal or decent return for him if he's traded now?

OTOH, the CBJ has a chance to be a great team this year, and possibly be a threat to get to the Cup finals. While a lot of you wish Torts and CBJ just go away, does anyone think the CBJ front office has a death wish and will throw away their chance to have a big season by making a trade that does not bring back a significant player to replace Breadman in the lineup?

There is no sane rationale to trade him until the trade deadline, and probably not then either. If he walks after the season then the CBJ has lots of cash to find a good replacement.

On top of that, while Breadman is a great player, is he really among the top ten players in the NHL? If your team (i.e. the Rangers) offered him 10 to 12 per season for 7 or 8 years would you think it is a good deal? If he does walk, let's see what his value really is. It could be that the CBJ will overpay to retain him and other clubs aren't willing to pay him a king's ransom like the CBJ will.

There is no reason to trade him now, and no reason to think it's a forgone conclusion he's leaving at the end of this season.

I'm a CBJ fan, and don't believe they can make a successful run to the Cup unless a lot of pieces come together, without anything regressing from last year.
Wennberg, Dubinsky, Foligno, Jenner & Atkinson all must come back to form. Bjorkstrand & Dubois must take another step forward.
Werenski must rebound; and Jones maintain.
Get an big contribution from an unexpected player (ala Dubois last year). Milano ??
Abramov?

And pray that Bob doesn't spend any length of time on IR !

Unless the front office is getting indications from Panarin & Bob that they are likely to re-sign, I'm for trading them rather than losing them for nothing. Waiting until the TDL never brings the return all the pundits espouse in the time leading to the TDL.
If the season goes sideways - make the move.

Panarin has said he likes the team, coaches & front office - Columbus is just not the city for him.
Keep in mind that the CBJ have problems attracting the type of talent you expect to get for big $$$.

I'd love to see both of them stay, although a long-term, high $$ contract for a 31 y.o. keeper will bite you in 3-4 years.
