Not much for substance here James, however, I'll chime in on Dylan Strome, to me his skating is holding him back from being the player you want him to be. He reminds me of a larger version of Sam Gagner.

His skating may or may not be a problem, but he led the team in p/60 suggesting he's very much the player I think he is/ want him to be.

Maybe Tocchet feels like Strome has to earn his ice time / Pp time. A small sample size from the end of last season isn't a large enough body of work. James, as a stat guy you can appreciate not judging a player off too small a sample size?

Such a small sample size of 10 games is not a reliable indicator of future success or a reason by itself to have him playing big PP minutes, obviously. Saying that, he did do well so there's no reason to believe he can't continue to progress this year, I'm sure he'll get his opportunity to show what he can do on the PP. I dont even think it's just about him "proving himself" and "earning it", the coach's job is to win and if Strome on the first PP is the best option, 99% of the time that's what they do. As an outsider looking in, there are just so many internal factors involved in the coaches determining those units that it's hard to say if a player should be there or not.

100% I do. However, when you have a player you drafted as a core franchise piece, and he's been to three training camps, almost won the AHL scoring title and scored at the highest rate on the team during his last audition, I think you just gotta give him every opportunity to succeed.

Brave predictions in the Pacific standings-thread... Mr. Tanner, at least at first sight. I think you got completely right that Ducks and Kings are on the bubble to outside, though i see Kings stronger than Ducks. Vancouver below them is obvious, but VGK will be ahead of all mentioned. Sharks weaker than Coyotes? Thats the real brave one... doubt it. I see Sharks, Flames and VGK in playoffs, Oil and maybe(!) Coyotes on the bubble...

This sounds strange...:
-------
Craig Morgan@craigsmorgan
Barrett Hayton on making the Coyotes‘ 23-man roster for now: “It was really a goal of mine from the start so to hear that is great.”

CapFriendly@CapFriendly
We're not entirely sure yet how the #Coyotes were able to mange this. Hayton making the team as opposed to being sent back to Junior puts Arizona at 51 contracts.

We're working on figuring out what we've missed.
