Bobby Kittleberger: Dustin Brown Out and the Opening Night Roster As the LA Kings season opener approaches, Dustin Brown is out with a broken finger and Jaret Anderson-Dolan is waiting patiently in the shadows of the opening night roster.

Wagner, Carter, and Lewis would be a deadly speed line

I really like Wagner with Kempe.

This is why I wanted to see Blake make another forward acquisition besides Kovalchuk. It was foolish to make only change to the roster and then call his Summer complete, IMO.

I understand Iafollo isn't a sexy pick, but I'd rather see him on that line than DB. We know what DB is at his best, and he isn't always at his best, far from it actually. I was already seeing it in his preseason action: carrying the puck WAY WAY too much and make terrible decisions with it as he circled round and round the O zone. His passes are either off the mark, too soft, too hard, or non-existent. My blood was already boiling thinking of all the shifts that were going to end with Kopi and Kovi never touching the puck because DB handled and hogged it before turning it over. Iafollo will do the dirty the work to keep possessions alive and he'll be a good soldier and give the puck up to Kopi at first chance.

it's going to be a long season, we have the same issues as always.

Muzzin, Martinez and Forbort are not solid enough to round out their respective positions and ice time allotments.

Stevens cannot seem to light fires or get the forwards to play with pride and passion, the preseason may not count toward the play offs, but what we saw there is what we will get in the regular season.

the line juggling with special teams messes up the lines once at full strength again and stevens cant seem to figure out that the top 2 lines should be able to handle the PP time, maybe you can add one different component, but mashing up the lines is not going to work and putting Kovi at the point is going to continue to fail.

Puck battles are still an issue, passing to the other team is still an issue, starts are still an issue, get ready to be 10 points out of the play off picture this year.

This team looks better than I thought. Ok so they gave up a really pathetic 1st goal.

That Wagner kid is blazing fast! He’s got to stay up. He has way too much speed and gives defenders fits.

Was at the game in Winnipeg tonight. Damn, it must be awesome to watch Doughty on a regular basis - so cool just to watch him skate. Anyway, you guys need some guys who can score.

Jack Campbell is good. Your D is good. System is good. You just need scorers - trade you Ehlers and a 1st for Doughty?

What they need is a different coach. Stevens is as uninspiring as they come and has been with the team for about 8 years. There's nothing fresh about his coaching. Blake was too focused on x's and o's two Summers ago and neglected what his team really needed, which was a fresh approach and someone that the players would be excited to play for and want to impress.

This game is only half about skill, after all. The other half is motivation. We've seen countless times (ex. with Vegas last year) how powerful motivation can be. You can add scoring (ex. Kovalchuk) and you can add speed (ex. Kempe, Wagner), but if the team, as a whole, has no real motivation, then it just goes through the motions, hoping that things magically click eventually, which is the sense that I've gotten from this team for several years now.

Nope, still hoping Kings can swing a deal for Nylander before December. Or maybe even Panarin at the deadline.

Players that should be shopped out by the kings...

Forbort, Muzzin, Martinez, Pearson, Amadio

we have enough in the pipeline and could get enough in return not to miss them one (frank)ing bit.

and quite honestly they cost us games

Yep. I definitely agree with Pearson being my number 1 and muzzin/Martinez being 2A and 2B to be gone.

Figure it out Blake. This team isn’t going anywhere. Get younger and faster. And be ready in 2 years. Go get a Nylander/Panarin type player. I don’t care if it costs 2-3 roster players. Then bring up the kids. Keep JAD up and put him on the 2/3 lines. Sticking him on the fourth line does absolutely nothing!

And of course let’s hope Vilardi and his back situation gets better.

Pearson's game has fallen way off, constantly losing puck battles, always on the wrong side of the puck, no danger in his skating or play making, taking low percentage shots... wagner and toffoli look way better together.

speaking of people who are n't up to snuff.... I saw Carter on the back of a milk carton today

Carter is as streaky as they come, I'm not too worried about him 3 games in... I think Wagner took his lumps last night, first when Buffuglyn moved up on him at the blue line before Wagner even knew what happened (Foxy commented on that particular plat as well) and then when he didn't react to Schieffle diving down the slot to the crease on his goal...

If you keep JAD (or Vilardi) on the roster this season, you'll have to protect him in the Seattle expansion draft. Better to let him go back to juniors for a season and let him have a spot next year.

Oh wow. I did not know that.

Do you know where I can read that in the rules? They seem to young to protect.
