Nice log lucas
Still, the longer Nylander holds out, the less the cap his contract counts towards after this season. It could be mututal at this point considering they couldn't come to a reasonable agreement before the season started. |

Sign Willie to a bridge 2yr $5m
Play him at C in Kadri's spot...move Kadri to wing with Matthews.
Let's see what Willie can do playing with Connor Brown and Josh Leivo.
If he still puts up big points...give him big money.
The end.

Dubas is great, no need to fire him.

Honest question,
Can you see Arizona offering and Mathews signing an offer sheet next year for 14 per?
Would you match or take the 5 first rounders? I assume you match.

Easy.
Sell the team for millions, pay Matthews the millions. |

That Hossa-Matthews-Bolland line would be deadly. |

They’ll have more cap space than the leafs next year ( if you consider they dont have a Marner, Mathews nylander to pay) and we are only talking 2-3 million if you think the leafs are signing him 10- 12. |

In answer to the Willy UFA question from last thread:
To get to UFA, you have to have 7 years of NHL or be 27 years old.
If I'm doing the math correct here, if he plays this year, he'd be UFA after the 2021-22 season.
He turns 27 at the end of the 2022-23 season.
So sitting out a year does not get him closer to UFA status.
Please note: I may not have done the math correctly here. |

Very tempting to take Arizona's 5 first rounders - I'm assuming the Coyotes remain a tire fire for the next few years. |

I answered.....in the other blog...but if he sits this year...they'd tack another year on before he hits UFA....right? |

Isn't that kinda what they are already doing - with the Leafs, Rangers and Flyers shipping them money? |

They're paying 52 mil in actual salary this year with a 72mil cap hit. They're Melnyking it up hard.

Bringing home the home town kid might very well be the absolute last ditch attempt to keep the team there, just saying they may completely over pay out of pure desperation and find a way.
I think it’s a long shot but If we were ever to see another huge offer sheet signed ( last one was maybe WEBER with Philly ). This would be it. |
