early season happenings. not a big deal for the sharks. in the end both sharks and leafs will prove to be much better teams than the islanders. 2 or 3 game samples mean nothing in an 82 game season.

The Isles scored plenty of goals last year, and they will score plenty of goals without Tavares. If they can buy in to a new defensive concept, which so far all indications is that they are, they will be fine. I loved Tavares when he was here, but ultimately, he was the face of the Snow/Capuano/Weight Islanders. Barzal is the face of the new Islanders, and last year was their best player. Tavares leaving will work out for both side in the end. The Islanders have a new identity, and Tavares can play for his favorite team from when he was a child. The last few years was all about making him happy, and I think it took a toll on the team. With him gone, this team feels like a reset button has been pushed.

The Isles are suddenly a team of vets just by the ageing of their core and the addition of Filppula, Martin and Komorov. They miss JT but are now past the distraction. Lehner looked like Bobrovski in the nets and there is a crazy fun atmosphere around this team and the fans, especially come December when they return to the Nassau Coliseum.

Isles have not had this type of coach in years. It makes a huge difference. Garth Snow never bothered to hire a good coach in all his years as GM.

It's just one game, EK. Anyone whose watched enough hockey can tell you goalies can steal one some nights. Bounces go the right way others. Any team can play good.. the truly good ones can do it for 82 games + though.

Islanders are not ready for the Cup and maybe not even the playoffs, but things will only get better as the roster improves with this great coaching staff.

Isles will be better than expected. Let's be real, best case scenario this team fights and slides into the 8th seed and gets smoked in the 1st round. I still maintain best option is to tank and get jack Hughes.

I like the Islanders and I think Lou will get a few more strong pieces as the season goes forward. Good chance this team can make playoff push.

Islanders fighting for the last Wildcard spot may not be out of the question. I do not see Islanders being in the hunt for Hughes with Barry coaching this team.

Sorry oh high and mighty leaf fan, you havent won crap since 67, you probably havent seen a cup in your lifetime but i guess we should just give the leafs the cup. You have a goalie that has up and down years and terrible team d which is what wins in the post season. Win the cup then talk all the trash you want there paper champ

The game is played on Ice not on paper. The Isles out hustled the Sharks, It's early but the Isles might surprise some people.

Sharks have to many chefs in the kitchen (on defense) now so to speak. Might not work out as good as some people thought.

But I'm sure they will get their poop together and find a way to make it work. Jones needs to improve his game as well, he hasn't looked great like he has been the past few years. Still so early, Sharks will probably still end up winning their Division.
