Ya, no way they sign Ceci long term. Hes gonna want a big payday, and we cant give that to a guy whos being outplayed by first and second year players.

Wolanin hasn't looked as good in NHL pre-season and AHL pre-season action in Belleville. He seems tentative and mistake prone. He needs time in the AHL to develop.

I just choose to remain naive and optimistic.

It goes without saying that they should market Ceci aggressively at this year's trade deadline to any teams in the playoff hunt with an injury to a top-4 RHD. Jaros looks like a natural fit to eventually succeed his role, and both DeMelo and Wideman are already making a case for more RHD exposure. That would also save Dorion from making some kind of an dumb-$hit long-term contract offer to Ceci, just because he's an Ottawa native.

They should have marketed him aggressively one to two years ago. When everyone else saw what ceci wasn't. Instead, in typical fashion they've waited too long on an asset and now will give away for more "magic beans".

Ideally, you want to offload players like Ceci while their apparent value is higher than their actual value. To do that, we would've needed to send them to a team that isn't as familiar as they should be with a player they're considering trading for. Our biggest problem in Ottawa is that we are evaluating our own talent worse than outsiders are and don't have the staff to properly scout outside talent which makes us a great trade partner.

Our biggest reminder of this will obviously be Dahlen. Acquiring Burrows is almost unjustifiable on its own without giving up a decent prospect.

I think we're going to see a lot of games like this. The Sens will get some chances, and score some goals, but the defense will ultimately prove to be over matched.
