That would make sense IF O’Reilly was still here

I’m not telling you what to believe or not...
But there was no need for him to lie about the situation
Like i said...
Jack could’ve just said nothing at all

- jdfitz77

Its reasonable to feel either way.

I'm just saying there is reason to lie.

Neither of these 2 need this on their resume for future employment .

Eichel definitely could have just said nothing.
I think that's how Dutch and ror handled it.
It never ended. That was 3 plus years ago.

That's fine, but I obviously don't agree. I think RoR is easily replaced on the PP. I think it's only fair to evaluate Berglund as RoR's 5v5 replacement. So far, he's been good.
- Lunaion

Let’s say I accept your premise that ROR can be easily replaced on the PP. If it wasn’t Berglund who replaced ROR, how do you evaluate them as equals?

Again, I'll form my own opinion, instead of trusting "words" from a 21 year old getting advice from an agent.

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with Fitz. Why would Jack lie about it? To what end? ROR is gone, never to return. Not everyone in the room loves each other, even on great teams. Do you like everyone you work with? Not likely, but you can probably put it aside to get poop done.

I don’t buy it
He certainly didn’t need to make up this grand story when he could’ve just swept it under the rug with the typical jargon
That’s just far fetched imo

Now if ROR was still here...
then maybe i could see the 2 getting together & burying the hatchet & coming up with this story

O’Reilly got traded though
So in their professional lives, this supposed drama was over with

Maybe not on these boards...
but i don’t see how that would have any effect on them
Even if the media still brought it up when we played StL,
I still don’t think that would affect them

And whether or not they disliked each other for real...
how would that have an effect on ROR or Jack’s next contract?
Neither of them are up anytime soon

How so?
Can’t say I’ve heard or seen ROR/Duchene brought up anywhere but here
And these boards don’t mean sh!t in real life with these guys

You evaluate the components separately: even strength, PP, and PK. Special teams are hard to evaluate though, they go up and down significantly month to month and season to season, even with the same players.

Is this year's PP better with Sheary than last year with RoR? Probably, but a lot of that is just because they ranked poorly last season and were likely to do better this year irregardless.

ROR is traded, Eichel gets the “C”. The culture has changed. There was an issue in the locker room, Homie has said it, 89 said that ROR had to be moved, and Gerbe has said there was problems in that room. So can we stop talking about this and never bring it up again.

It's not good business to be known as a guy that doesn't get along with teammates. Pretty simple. Who wants that regardless of whether there was truth to the rumor?

I must be wrong, your agreeing with fitz?
I'm punting

Seems to me like the actual problem was that we were losing
Not that there was some huge issue between Jack & O’Reilly

Guys bicker & fight even in locker rooms all the time
Sh!t get heated when you’re losing that much

Obviously I’m not gonna change your mind
and that’s fine

But i think your reasoning behind Jack making up such an elaborate story is really reaching
And it would’ve made much more sense for Jack to just sweep it under the rug

He’s signed for 8 more years
Hard to imagine his next contract will have anything at all to do with ROR
I just don’t see it

This is silly. I understand the mechanics of the evaluation. But I’m paying attention to the results of the process.

You might say in one element of the game Berglund is half the player ROR is. But ROR played all the elements of the game. Berglund doesn’t.

So how does Berglund replace ROR even at half the salary?

Put aside the fact that you want to ignore ROR’s production on the PP, and then admit what a crap PP we had. If he was producing a lot in a crap system, isn’t it safe to say he’d produce even more in a good system.

Berglund does not replace ROR, or even close.

Mitts + Berglund should replace ROR. I’m sure the brass envisioned Mitts grabbing the 2C by the horns and running with it with berglund assuming the defensive responsibilities. It’s only been 3 games I still have hopes for Mittelstadt to find his game here.

He’s also not taking into account that O’Reilly would be reasonably better 5v5 playing with Skinner/Sheary and a healthy Okposo or not slumping Reinhart

I’ll bet RORs 5v5 stats end up being a lot better this year now that he isn't playing with scrubs like Pouliot or Girgs, etc

I would just look at it as what ROR took with him on his way out and whether we're still getting now.

Offensively, he brought solid PP production and 5v5 scoring at the rate of a 3rd liner. We can debate the pp vs 5v5 value to death but here's how I see it.

The powerplay is effectively run by Ristolainen and Eichel. O'Reilly's subtraction and the addition of either skinner/mittelstadt or whomever(they seemed like the logical choices in the summer so i'll just go with them) really wasn't going to make or break the man advantage because it usually lives and dies with those two.

And whether Berglund ends up actually replacing ROR's 5v5 value or not remains to be seen but in general it would not be hard to replace because the fact is he didnt produce much at 5v5.

Perhaps it was how he was used by housley, and I concede there is some merit to that. In the limited sample size this season, he's typically leaned on one specific line to handle the brunt of the defensive assignments. ROR was probably a victim of this, but that scenario was never going to change with the current build of the roster.

He and Jack could be best buddies and Housley would still be deploying him in a role where he'd never produce. My contention ultimately was that at 7.5 million, he should be able to because the others who fit that archetype (couturier, barkov, kadri) were all getting it done at both ends. ROR neither produced nor prevented other teams from producing while he was on the ice at 5v5 (which is in fact the most played game state and the one particular area that has been a consistent struggle for the Sabres, unlike the PP).
