Man people need to relax! Seems like nowadays more than ever if you don't start the season off with a 20-0-0 record there's cause for concern! It's a marathon, not a sprint. It doesn't matter how you start, it's how you finish! Some teams take longer to gel than others at the beginning. Three games in and fans of every team are ready to lose there minds or blow it all up and rebuild! Good teams are going to lose to bad teams, all season long this will happen!

Glad we got them when we did. Got us off to the right start. Hertl looks to be best shark by a ton. The season is already a success that DW didn't have to give him up. Even Vlasic looks like poo so far.

Not worried about the scoring...the chances are there & the puck will start going in given the firepower on the team....

Not yet worried about the goaltending, as Jones was solid against the Isles, but had zero biscuit-in-the-basket support...& were there 1 or 2 empty netters in that game? (not sure, really asking)

That said, if he continues with the letting in softies, i have a feeling that we'll see Dell more than in just a backup role.

P.S. Good write up/analysis, Steve!

My only real concern is Jones. Just looks so disinterested out there. No intensity...not fighting to make saves.

Kane's been a beast.
Pavs, kind of expect a slow down at this stage - he's getting older and he was never very fast.
Vlassic has looked ho-hum
Burns is Burns....love his offensive game, I sometimes fear his defensive game

I thought the PP looked awesome vs the Flyers when Couture ended up at the point with Burns and Karlsson ended up dropping down to the left circle....they really controlled the puck well and had some great chances. Seems to be better than having the 2 RHS dmen on the points at the same time.

Nothing against Braun....like the guy. But I'd like to see Heed get a shot out there with Dillion on the 3rd pairing. If that works I'd consider moving Braun for some offensive depth.

Nice game against the fliers. Where was that when you needed it. On paper you look good. And everybody loves karlsson. But it dosen't help that one player is garnering all this attention. People are acting like Karlsson alone will make you the best team in the west. When the truth is your defence was already strong. I mean unless Karlsson frees you up to move Burns back to the wing. Then yeah this move might make a big impact. That's why I wasn't so hot on trading for him on the ducks. It just what you guys needed.

Vlasic is playing with a different partner & it takes time to adjust.
DeBoer should just put Braun & Vlasic back together. But you know coaches they like to tinker with different idea's until it isn't that good, then he will do the Todd McGoo & changes up again

Just tossing this out there to get SJ fans take.
Nylander + Gardiner for Vlasic + (Thornton or any other way to make the cap work)
Thoughts?

Curious why you even think this is a good trade for your team, Toronto. Vlasic is 31 signed for 7million for god knows how long.
Thornton is constantly hurt and most likely retiring after this year. Banking on a championship with this trade?

Bad trade for Toronto IMO. I’m going to be really biased in saying my trade
Muzzin (29 @4M), Pearson, pick would be way better. Yes I understand there will be a way better off than this. But vlasic and Thornton for Nylander and Gardiner. I’d love to see you post this in the TOR forum just to see what your fellow fans think.

Muzzin puts up the same numbers as vlasic and is younger by 2 years with 2 championships. Pearson is a younger forward who Puts up between 15-25 goals.

Toronto needs a solid stay at home right handed defensemen. Vlasic on a 7 million contract fits our cap and Vlasic fits perfectly beside Reilley. Gardiner is a UFA at seasons end and is leaving. Leafs need to lose a dman to make room anyway so might as well be the guy that has no future here.

We don't need another half baked third string defensemen who thinks he can score (Muzzin). We need a defensemen who can play defense. Vlasic is the best defensive defensmen in the league. While the value for this is not as high as for an offensive dman, it is exactly what Toronto needs. Nylander is good but his stats are artificially inflated by Mathews. Nylander for Vlasic is fair. Gardiner and Thornton are throw ins for cap and positional alignment.

Vlasic for Nylander is a terrible one for one.

What happens when TOR doesn’t win a cup in 3 years? You’re stuck with a very high priced dman for many years.

7 million for Phaneuf was over paying. Karllsen will want 10-12 million this year.
Gardiner will be asking for 6-7. I am a big believer that defensemen should actually be able to play defense. (Strange concept I know). Vlasic is actually worth 7 million. So to me your comment is like saying we're stuck with Tavares as a very high priced forward for many years.

You need value for your players. Nylander is the fourth best forward on a team in dire need of defensive help. SJ is almost the exact opposite. Vlasic is the third best defensemen on a team in need of offensive help.

Sorry but I think SJ is a bad trade partner. And I’m the last person you need to convince when it comes to defensive defenseman.

I just think TOR can do way better if they’re trading Nylander. No I’m not saying the kings are that much better of a trade partner but the Kings have made it known they need to trade a defenseman for a scorer. They had a deal in place for patches and it fell through. Idk what the pieces were but I’m sure it’s a close package to what TOR might want.
