Maurice's refusal to break up Shiefele's and Lowry's lines right now to me is the truest definition of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

also, how will we know the true value of Connor (contract year but flies way under the radar cause of Laine ) until he is moved away from 55 & 26?

does Maurice think if all 4 lines are juggled we are looking at a Y2K situation?

time to try something like this;

Perrault - sheif - laine
ehlers - ros - wheels
connor - lowry - tanev
copp - little - dano or petan

-I think Vesalainen will not play the ten games this year, he will stick around and be able to join the team and play in Finland but chances are he stays behind in Finland and doesn't return with us. with Petan, Dano and Lemieux all capable players and Vesalainen not getting the ice time or not being a true difference maker yet it makes no sense to keep him. Especially!!!! with the fact if he plays this year then he will have to be protected in next expansion draft

-maybe its time to try Little in a defensive role? lets see what Lowry can do with a true shooter on one of his wings rather than the shoot for the chest Copp and Tanev.

A much much better showing last night than the Dallas game ... yes, at times we got penned in our own zone but we also had plenty of cycle time & great puck control in the O zone

I would say we are progressing well ... great early season test on the road Thursday v Preds before a nice long home stand

Why o why would anyone consider busting up the Scheif line of the Lowry line for that matter ? ... those are our best 2 lines right now

Roslo - f_ck me did he have some moves last night ... if I'm PoMo I'm sticking with him at centre ... might take awhile - coach him up and stick with him it will pay off

Question mark still remains around Vesalainen ... will be watching him a bit more closely for now

I break up those line cause to me we are settling for a mark of 50% right now. Sure 50% is a pass and hopefully will allow us to continue winning games 2-1 or 4-3 but I believe we have enough talent up front that if all 4 lines were mixed up we are not all of sudden going to poop the bed everywhere and we may just end up with 4 solid lines rather than 2.

On a side note, I don’t ever want to see the three banners raised in Nashville hang in our arena!!! That’s an embarrassment, regular season champs, presidents cup, central division champs........those are all jokes and mean nothing!!!! Please true north, Stanley cup banner or nothing!!!!

That's the kind of game I like from the Jets! Much better defensively. Rosy was fantastic last night, he needs a chance with the 2nd line. Morrow was much better last night as well.

Personally, I don't think that you play around with the 1st line or the TLC line at this point because you need to be winning hockey games and not worrying about KC's potential contract at this point. Guys that can play a complimentary role and excel with good line-mates are just as valuable as guys who can carry a line... just ask Connor McDavid. The chemistry is there, success is there, its cup or bust - so let it ride. If the other 2 lines are the issue, then Mo has enough pieces/options to tinker around and try to fix them.

There has been no chemistry on the second line since last year when Stasny finally moved Little off Laine and Ehlers line. I agree moving Roslovic between Laine and Ehlers would be a good move as all three have speed and skill. Little has more chemistry playing with Perreault and the Jets will need Laine and Ehlers playing much better if they are going to continue to be successful. It took an injury to Little for stubborn Maurice to finally play Scheifele with Wheeler, and look at that line now.

2.0 thoughts:

I was one on this board asking for Rosy to play second line, however, I have changed my opinion and think that it is the way it ought to be for now.

It is Maurice's job to have this team in the best possible position to succeed in April/May/June, not in October. Roslovic is just starting his time as an NHL centre and giving him sheltered minutes is a good decision. He will make adjustments while the team talent and depth wins games and will be ready when opportunities arrive for PP or Line 2 time.

Another way of looking at it is this - if it doesn't work and the line is not scoring as many goals or is a defensive liability how much of a setback is it for the development of the young guns? It would not leave us in the best position at playoff time.

I still think that he will get time between Ehlers and Laine whether just be experiment or whether it's as an injury fill in. Safe time without the pressure of expectation to propel Laine over 50 goals and Ehlers over thirty while all playing at 1ppg. Fan expectations for these three are not realistic or helpful to the team.

Regarding Ehlers and Perreault - I liked the idea of putting Perreault up and Ehlers down but I was wrong. It should have been obvious that Ehlers would not be able to get the ice time he needs and deserves in that situation. This is the downside of splitting up lines to spread talent and scoring throughout the lineup. The way hockey works best is usually when there is two or three lines that take the bull by the horns and lead the charge. Balance only happens on paper.

Been thinking a bit more about this ... Ross77 - if we tried this for middle 6:

Ehlers-Roslo-Laine
Perrault-Little-Veaslainen

Then we need to hop on it pretty quickly - ya wanna have this nailed down early in the season ... and - as always - injuries will mess with the line up here and there anyway

The above Roslo line I would have on a short leash

Let Maurice experiment all he wants with different combos so the players can get experience with both each other and the system. That is so long as we keep winning games. Heck , Tanev looked great on the couple of shifts he was on the top line. TLC line actually got second line minutes. That says a lot.

Some other notes. I think Austin Matthews is quickly proving that he is definitely the better of him and Laine. So much more an all-around player.

We really need a better LH defenseman on the third pairing. Morrow just isn't cutting it. Every other Dman played a very solid game except Morrow. Mistake after mistake. We can do better.

I for one never thought Laine was close to Mathews for that simple fact; now of course I'm super happy we have Laine and he was the obvious 2nd pick that year but centers are worth way more than wingers. I find it funny how leaf fans continue to judge these 2 straight up, such an insecure bunch.

Not sure if EDM would be down... but I don't mind the trade from our end. Would hate to see Ehlers go... he and McDavid would be dynamite.

ya this deal could never work though cause oilers have zero cap space and no way should we take back one of their awful contracts to balance that aspect out, but thats what I thought, Ehlers and McDavid would be fun to watch

Mathews is tearing it up ... will be tough to keep the pace up but I'm sure he's gonna finish strong

Let's remember - the fact the Jets drew 2nd in the 2016 was insane ... believe we were seeded / expected to draw the 6th pick which back then was the Tkachuk pick ... as it happened

Whale of a game tomorrow, boys - f_ckin HUGE !! ... we lost out to the Knights but if there is any rivalry brewing for the Jets - it's with the Preds ... I expect to see an intense, well contested game

Remember when we thought the rivalry would be w the Blackhawks ?

I like Ehlers but there is a cost to assuring we do not re sign Myers, Ehlers has to take one for the team here. what if we swapped Nurse for Klefbom?

If you want to do line combinations, the one that makes the most sense is:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Roslovic-Laine
Perreault-Little-Dano
Copp-Lowry-Tanev

And if you value corsi and think that is an amazing stat, then I would do:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Lowry-Laine
Perreault-Copp-Dano
Tanev-Roslovic-Little

You are welcome!

The person who will take one for the team is the BIG DOG! Byfuglien's, no movement clause expires this year and he can be traded anywhere. He's the most logical choice to be moved and combine that with a Perreault buyout, we will be fine for cap space.

Myers has been on the ice for 5/7 goals against us this year and was in the penalty box for another. He almost blew it for us last night with his ill timed penalty late in the game. at some point it will become even too difficult for the few on here that love him to continue to point the blame in other directions as he will be on the ice for 75% of the goals allowed this year.

if he is resigned it will be Chevy's biggest mistake to date and probably worst signing as a GM throughout his entire career.

C'mon dude, you are saying signing Myers is worse than re-signing Little, Enstrom and the goalie from the heavens, Ondrej Pavelec?

The Jets did fine before we got Statsny last year and we are one year older and more experienced. So long as we can make the playoffs nothing else matters. The trade deadline will be a big key to how far we advance. What Statsny added was the formation of an equally lethal second line. Why is that so important ? Simply because any team has to make a choice on which of those two lines to play against their checking line. As for Jets home games , they have a huge advantage of line-matching their top two lines against whomever they prefer. Just look at the Leaf with the Matthews and Tavares lines beating teams down. Which line do you check ?

If they cant get a center then a LHD would be awfully nice. In the meantime hopefully Roslovic develops into that guy this year on the same fast progression we saw in Kyle Connor.

I knwo I'm way ahead of where we are in the season but the two guys on my radar are Joe Pavelski and Alexander Edler. Both would cost us but winning a cup is the ultimate prize. Pavelski likely will not be available because SJ makes the playoffs. Edler likely will. Eric Staal ?
