The Jets did fine before we got Statsny last year and we are one year older and more experienced. So long as we can make the playoffs nothing else matters. The trade deadline will be a big key to how far we advance. What Statsny added was the formation of an equally lethal second line. Why is that so important ? Simply because any team has to make a choice on which of those two lines to play against their checking line. As for Jets home games , they have a huge advantage of line-matching their top two lines against whomever they prefer. Just look at the Leaf with the Matthews and Tavares lines beating teams down. Which line do you check ?

If they cant get a center then a LHD would be awfully nice. In the meantime hopefully Roslovic develops into that guy this year on the same fast progression we saw in Kyle Connor.

I knwo I'm way ahead of where we are in the season but the two guys on my radar are Joe Pavelski and Alexander Edler. Both would cost us but winning a cup is the ultimate prize. Pavelski likely will not be available because SJ makes the playoffs. Edler likely will. Eric Staal ?

Eric Staal makes a lot of sense. A LH center would be nice.

C'mon dude, you are saying signing Myers is worse than re-signing Little, Enstrom and the goalie from the heavens, Ondrej Pavelec?

Yes, that’s exaxtly what I am saying

I don’t want to trade our first rounder at the deadline, our 2nd is fine but let’s try and keep our first rounder this year. I think Roslovic will be much improved in a few months.

I like Ehlers but there is a cost to assuring we do not re sign Myers, Ehlers has to take one for the team here. what if we swapped Nurse for Klefbom?
- Ross77

We should be asking for more, then. Chia is really stupid, so there’s no way Edmonton has any idea Klefbom is their best dman

Absolutely, and without question.
Pavelec wasn’t that expensive, and was far younger.
Enstrom was prime age, and had a history of performance Myers never has.
Little is in the same conversation as a Myers extension, but even then, Little is still a better centre than Myers is a defenceman, and Little has already been in decline for 3 years.

Myers is a higher end bottom pairing defenceman who needs a defensively responsible partner to be useful. He’s a liability in all non-offensive zone at 5 on 5 situations, and with his imminent decline and injury history looming overhead, there’s absolutely no contract possible for Myers that isn’t a cap noose

Edler is a perfect target. Especially if Chiarot is going the other way, and Niku comes up to play behind him and JoMo.

perception is so funny and dangerous actually.

I bet most would place Connor's value on a long term deal around 6.5-7 mill per. I then would say most would have Marner or Laine's value at 8.5 -10 mill per. Marner had 9 more points than Connor last year and Laine had 13. In todays NHL is the value of 9-13 points really worth 2-3 million more per season? I don't think so.

Game tonight vs Nashville. Jets need to be on their absolute A game to beat Nashville in Smashville . As much as I am the optimist I just don't think the Jets are there yet. They historically start the season slow and this season looks like no exception. I they can play the 1970's style Canadiens defensive game they brought for the first two periods against LAK where they allowed only 10 shots then we will be fine. Nashville has three strong lines so its hard to choose which one to use the TLC line against. The Laine-Little - whomever line has been picked on by opposing coaches. This will be no exception. Same with the Morrow - Myers pairing. Myers has a solid effort against LAK but Morrow made a lot of mistakes. I far prefer Poolman to Morrow even on his offside. We'd lose Morrow though to waivers in order to get there unless we send Laviolette will be targeting them with the last change.

Nashville 4- 2 . Hope I'm wrong.

I honestly believe no team would pick up Dano, chariot or morrow off waivers. I do think a team takes a chance on Petan but that's it.

Dano and Morrow are insta-claims. They’re former first rounders, and one has a history of production, while the other has a history of being forcefed top 4 minutes at times

Chariot for sure would get picked up. Likely 5-6 teams would have an interest led by Montreal

Morrow maybe . Once again MTL in need of D and have familiarity.

Dano possibly a bottom team like Ottawa, but unlikely. Would probably clear waivers.

Petan would definitely get picked up . All the Injuries on Anaheim would make for a nice setting for him.

Morrow is a #7 dman. This has always been the case.
That said, to say Morrow it the only problem on the bottom pairing is a massive lie. Myers has been playing absolutely horrendous hockey so far, and he’s never been able to carry a pairing at the absolute top of his game.

The Petan decision will likely be made by Monday morning as he's now back and skating. Barring injuries we should find out shortly. Logic says though that Lemieux gets sent down.

former first rounders pass through waivers all the time, probably half dozen already have this season.

If you want to do line combinations, the one that makes the most sense is:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Roslovic-Laine
Perreault-Little-Dano
Copp-Lowry-Tanev

And if you value corsi and think that is an amazing stat, then I would do:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Lowry-Laine
Perreault-Copp-Dano
Tanev-Roslovic-Little

You are welcome!

Ross, I think you forgot that Petan and Dano combined on a goal last year which makes the pair (Petano) worth at least three first-round picks.

Apparently the two possible values that can be assigned to a player are “clear waivers for sure” or “literally worth more than the Sens got for Karlsson”. Nothing in between.

Also of note: that one #Petano goal came in the one game they were allowed to play together

Well, Jets lost in a crazy game. Can't say the refs cost them the game because Nashville never scored on the nine or so powerplays they had. At least our PK has firmed up. Looked excellent against one of the better PP's in the league last year.

The only Jet that I could lay some blame on the loss was Chariot. One really stupid blind pass and maybe he could have played that second goal a bit better. All the other defence were very solid. The TLC line , led by Tanev, was fantastic once again.

The only other takeaway is that our scoring punch from last season seems to be missing. We have played some pretty strong defensive teams in the last three games so I don't think its anything to particularly worry about just yet. It's also hard to score when the Jets are short-handed half the game.
