James Neal is looking like a Troy Brouwer clone. Gets paid 5.75 mil (too much even if he puts up his average last two seasons), loses 20-40% of his motivation, two long Stanley cup playoffs later, a few years older, definitely looks slow and easy to contain out there while not getting much done at all.

I thought the Flames would get 2-3 good years out of him then have to trade him while eating some salary or even buy him out of the last year. But this is looking like an awful contract already, especially considering without signing him they could've let Mangiapane play up (I'm sure he'd be doing more out there) and have a chance to sign Mark Stone, or a goalie!

I raised my eyebrows at this signing initially, like Treliving didn't you learn from your Brouwer mistake?? I really hope he can turn it around, or this albatross could really hurt the flames competitiveness for the next few years when they are so close to contending.

No kidding. Give him more than 3 games ffs. Flames look good so far, and I'm pumped with how good Lindholm is playing. Also, Ras and Vali should be on this team full time going forward. Lesson to BT to be more careful trading away those picks...props to the scouting staff for finding some good talent.

I thought the kids played great but I also thought Hanifin had a real solid game.

I still would like to see Bennett, Janko and Neal allowed a couple games to see if some chemistry builds there but overall I thought the Flames played well last night.

It was fun to watch.

Trolling or just impatient?

He’ll probably suck for half the year, put up 12 goals down the stretch and kick ass in the playoffs like he always does.

Nope. He’s old balls and shall continue the suckage that he has displayed over the last 3 games. Such a large sample size simply does not lie.

At least I sincerely hope so.

Has no one ever seen Neal play before? This is pretty much the player he his. He'll get his 20 goals, or at least get close this year, but he doesn't add a ton more than that. Why do you think four teams have been fine letting him go?

He's a good, at times great, finisher, but he's not generating offence.

20 goals sounds impressive, but it's really only a goal every four games. Throw in a couple multigoal games and you can go goalless for a while and still hit 20 goals no problem.

I imagine they have higher standards in the States for Unitards than in Northern Alberta.

I see you guys are going to trade Nurse?

He's typically a 30 goal/82 game player, which is nothing to sneeze at in this league. Once Ferland left, the Flames needed to backfill and augment production further. At the time, Lindholm was seen as a likely candidate to backfill, but not necessarily augment the production, so when you have a guy with a proven nose for the net, you gotta take that chance.

Like a lot of scorers, yeah, he will enjoy his streaks and the lulls that come with them. Hell, Iggy even in his 30-40 goal seasons didn't start scoring till November most years and it was so frustrating for fans.

Boeser still hasn't scored and Sportsnet is blasting "what's wrong with Brock" 3 games into the season... Hockey fans are many things, but patient in October we are not...
