@Victoro and MattStrat
I laughed hard at Victoro's comment and MattStrat's reaction :
Yeah I'm not saying it's not important. Just don't think anyone should say "Well, DeSmith is better at making saves, but Jarry can push the play, so we should go with Jarry."
.....
Who said that??
Haha thanks guys |

Maatta is absolutely a solid NHL defenseman, but like some players, they need the right system to flourish. TIOPS mentioned people feel he needs a Guy Boucher type system and that's how I feel. I thought he would have been a great fit in Ottawa.
Teams that have a more structure defensive system would be great for him. - Rinosaur
I think he's fine in Pittsburgh as long as he plays a safe game. Personally, I think the Penguins need to play a little safer or disciplined game. The days of out-skating everybody are gone. Sure we have some good skaters, but other teams have caught up.....and several have surpassed them. |

The new jersey looks pretty much the same to last years stadium series sweater. The new one looks like trash. Come up with something new/original. I'm amazed that people keep buying into this crap. Its pretty ugly.
Maata will be traded at some point this season. Nobody knows if they can keep Brassard or not at this point or if they want to. He still looks vanilla.
Sprong is still unproven, Hags will be gone, they still rely too much on the top 3. |

Kinda bored today. How about some Maatta trade scenarios? I'm a big Maatta fan, but if Riikola even plays half as good as he did in the preseason I think we've seen the last of Maatta.
IF this does happen, what kind of trade scenario do the Pens look for?
A straight salary dump for picks/prospects?
An upgrade at forward in the bottom six?
A mix of a bottom-six and picks/prospects? - Rinosaur
I see you don't value Määttä enough lol You never mentioned a Top 6 forward comming our way. Wut?
Question: why hasn't Sullivan tried Määttä with Riikola yet? Both play the same side only? Keep the finn guys on the team. |

I was never a fan of the white ones with the Pigeon/Robot Penguin/Corporate Penguin or whatever. The black, yellow and grey one was NEAT! Miss that one. |

Maatta for Duchene or even Stone if salary can be retained. - stackthepads
Love those deals and would even accept Bobby Ryan 50% retained tbh. |

I actually think Maatta is worth a 1st, but I'm not a GM. When you factor in salary, term, roster spots, etc... along with what the Pens have room to do, you can't go for some crazy package.
While I'm a fan of Simon, if the Pens are able to get a serious upgrade there along with maybe a 2nd pick for Maatta, I think that's a win. |

First d-pair in all-time fantasy (though i'm in absolute love with Larry Murphy ): #77 - #58

I think Murphy is above Letang. Coffey - 1, Murphy - 2, Letang and Gonchar interchangeable at 3 & 4.
Sullivan is sending a message to all six defense. (With the probable exception of Letang). Maatta may be on the hot seat, but he isn't the only one. |

I don't have the numbers to back it up, but I think Oleksiak has been the Pens worst dman thus far followed by Dumo. Dumo has been rusty as (frank). |

That's what I was saying in the off-season. I don't think he quite fits this team and system. |

I personally think he’s good on the Pens, but yes, I think he’d be a better fit in a more defense-first system. |

If anything I think Maatta's solid game is exactly what the pens need. He just isn't a fit with Johnson. Put him back with Letang or Schultz imo. |

Fair enough. It could work but hopefully we're not making a mistake of trading Määttä. |

Fantasy 1st intermission report: Being down 5pts with 4 games less (opponent has 4 more Sharks) - but now hopefully a slightler better quality and quantity ahead, i have already the feeling that not adding E. Kane (besides the rat) may be a costly mistake this week... i wanted to score something in defense as well - adding a few PP quarterbacks, but those choices can barely break the zero point and investing the money in simple brute-force (E. Kane) seems to be a safer bet, especially with a game more. |

I think as the season goes on and we start to see who is available you could see Maatta get trade, but it is only if Riikola and Johnson prove they can out play him. At this point I would peg Coyotes and Ottawa as sellers, but you never know. I could also see them shop Sheahan, Brassard (unlikely, but pending who they are trading for I could see him being an available option if they feel they couldn't sign him after the season and they were trying to land an all-star winger), Hagelin (Same situation as Brassard if they need the cap space and are getting a allstar winger as an upgrade). Of course all 3-4 would not be traded, but could be possible trade options pending on who were available and what JR sees as a weakness. Overall though I could see Sheahan, Sprong, and Maatta as the most likely to be traded by us at some point this season maybe for an all-star defenseman or Winger. Than again it is still extremely young in the season. |
