Is it as bad as a few years back when the NHL made a superhero comic book for each team?? They were beyond cringeworthy and sank without a trace. - Dr. Leaf
...And how could we forget this classic?
This is the kind of crap that makes me recoil and pull my shirt up over the bottom half of my face as I look on with horror and embarrassment, and not sure if I should laugh
They try it every 15-20 years. They were better off going with the real reason the Leafs are called the Leafs and gone with a WWI solider theme. Captain Maple Leaf. And even that would have sucked but at least made some sense.
I remember during the Sundin days, they made a series of some bullpoop that made every star player a superhero or something.
Found it.

That is it exactly. Thanks for that! Brings back awful memories. What the frank were they thinking?

Looks like Sundin is collecting the Infinity Stones in his hockey stick.

That's also really bad but at least Matthews had nothing to do with it.

Is it even worth trading for a Defenseman before the Seattle expansion draft? Knowing you can only protect so many players.. might be wise to wait it out and look for a trade afterwards. Which would suck having to wait but it might be a smarter option.
We won't be lucky this expansion draft with hardly any 1st or 2nd year players that are exempt from having to protect like we were during the Vegas expansion draft.

The ELC and NTC players are protected so basically you leave Zaitsev exposed or acquire an obvious 7th defender to leave unprotected. It's really just the 6th and 7th D that are left to be plucked and that's who? Marincin? Holl? Zaitsev? Borgman? Rosen? Ozhiganov?

Ya i know, and we won't have any ELC players on our roster this time is what I'm getting at. Which makes it more difficult on deciding on who to protect, aside from the obvious players.
It's like 7 forwards, 3 defense and 1 goalie isn't it? And I forget the other option you can choose.

7F: Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander (assuming he's here), Kadri, Kapanen & Hyman (Marleau is too old to protect)
The odd man out: Brown - As_I_See_It
This is about it. Maybe lose someone of Brown's calibre. Some will be sad, but no stars will be lost unless our GM really undervalues someone or makes a dumb choice. Hopefully we just protect who we can and let them take someone, none of that side deal crap that seemed to blow up in several teams' faces with Vegas, like Florida.
Plus we very well could have some guys that are on ELC's or ineligible, like maybe Lillybust or Sandin if they're on the team...

Honestly, this isn't as bad as that Laine thing.
Assuming you don't mind rap, the music isn't that bad, better imo to that Greased Laine poop. It's rap, so not much actual singing, but the singing in the other video is terrible imo. Plus as someone else mentioned, Matthews didn't actually have anything to do with this.
Leave Zaitsev unprotected. Problem solved. - Unholy_Goalie
Ya that's who I've always figured they would leave unprotected. If he has a good year this year which he's looked much better this year so far than last year but the season just started so we'll see if he can keep that up. If he does continue to look good, does that change any decisions you think?
If he got sniped by Seattle I don't think I'd be upset about it regardless so whatever I guess..

I almost hope he has a good year just so they take him. Zaitsev, even at his best, can be replaced by an ELC player at a quarter of the cost.
Tavares has a NMC
Marleau has a NMC
Kadri has a M-NTC (what does that M stand for?)
Freddy has a M-NTC as well
So all of them don't have to be protected? - LeafGuy89
The "M" is for Modified. They're clauses within a player's NTC i.e. When the NTC kicks in or a player can submit a list of teams that they can't be traded to.
I'm guessing the Seattle expansion draft would take place after the 2019-2020 season.
Marleau's contract is done after to 2019-2020 so he won't need to be protected. The only three would automatically be on our protection list.
