Peter Tessier: Jets fall to Preds in bizarre game The officials made their mark last night but were not the reason why the Jets lost to Preds.

The Jets are not going to win every game so the loss didn't really bother me. Quite frankly having only 26 shots against while the other team had nine powerplays is pretty outstanding.

This game was another good example of the consensus out there that Corsi really doesn't matter. Teams that out-corsi the other team lose more than they win. Once again true last night . I tend to disagree somewhat with that theory in that I think that anything above 60 CF% on 5 vs 5 is significant. Anything between 40 and 60 is basically white noise. You can usually see that in the play though so you don't need the stats to prove it. The TLC line has been a good example of this. Copp 90% ! Tanev 75 , Lowry 66 but it was pretty obvious visually that they were dominant when on the ice. The rest of the lines to me looked below par yet the teams Corsi as a whole was better than Nashville because of the TLC line's dominance. Myers led the D at 68.75 for the second game in a row. Morrissey and Trouba around 40.

It seems most of the goals this season have been scored against the Little line or the Scheifele line. Last night was no exception. All three goals scored against the quintet of Connor- Scheif-Wheeler- Chariot-Buff. I rarely see Wheeler Corsi above 40%. He's an offensive weapon but I truly believe he is the Jets worst forward defensively.

I bought the NHL game centre for games like this. This is one of the top, if not top rivalries in the NHL today. Two well built teams who play exciting hockey.

Watched most of the game...flipping between the Hawks game!
Jets were doing okay until that hit on Ehlers which led to the semi brawl.
How on earth that wasn't a penalty,I will never know.
Sure..the Jets deserved most of their calls but you are right, why weren't the Preds called for the same crap?
I was telling the wife...Mo needs to call a time out and chill out his troops.
He did not and they became unraveled.
I don't blame the refs for the Jet's losing the game...but NO WAY should a game be taken over by the refs...period!
It should never be about the refs and last night..it was unfortunately.
Welcome to the rivalry with the Preds.
Being a Hawks fan...I have come to loathe the Preds and most of their fans
Granted I am sure most jet's fans are at that point already.
Side note...loved how PK tried to start something with Schief and then when Schief wouldn't...PK called him a puss
I absolutely hate players like PK...they only go after the non fighters in the league so that they can look tough when the opponent turns him down lmao
That guy is a complete joke of a hockey player and I pray he get's traded to the Leafs so that my hatred for the Leafs can become pure

THIS is how an article should be written. Meanwhile, go view the Preds' article--much different tone. Great read.

Come on. Let's not complain about the officiating. Nashville has had its fair share of no calls, too. It all evens out.

Agreed on both counts. McCanns usual arrogance gushing in the Preds blog. While Nashville is arguably a very good team, I find nothing likable about the organization, including the fans. So pretentious and the projection of entitlement is annoying to the extreme.

Jets and their fans have none of that BS and the team is fun to watch. As a fan of a divisional rival, I actually enjoyed watching the Jets last post season even in spite of them destroying the Wild! Was especially satisfying when they beat Smushville!!!

Could not agree more. I loved watching the Jets in the playoffs last year and was hoping they would take it all. Their style of play is very entertaining. I, very much so, enjoyed watching them beat the Preds. It was VERY satisfying.

Great game last night by the way. You guys deserved that W. We're lucky to have only allowed 4 goals with the way our defense played.

Welcome back MnGump. I agree on the arrogance of the players, organization, and writers led by McCann......and I'll even add Cary Underwood to the truly arrogant list. I think the citizens of Nashville on the other hand are about as friendly and courteous as they come. Just go to a bar there. So the dichotomy is kind of strange.

Btw...the anthem singer last night was quite good. I'd love to see the Jets diversify a bit more in their singers instead of having to listen to Stacy Nattress all the time. Her stagnant rendition of the national anthems is getting very stale.

Thanks! Yeah, probably a little broad stroked on my part of the Nashville fandom being most of my interaction with them is on HB, but i'm sure you're right on the majority of the Nashville folks.

Entertaining game to say the least. The Jets have to stop taking dumb penalties, yes the officiating was 1-sided, as the Preds deserved many penalties that were not called, but most (not all) of the Jets penalties were deserved and were in the offensive zone.

The tipping point from what I saw was when our Captain went nuts in the first scrum. After realizing he had the wrong guy, he skates over and continues to escalate the situation. This was completely unnecessary, the refs clearly warned him and were in between him & Forsberg, yet Wheeler is trying to punch through the refs and ends up taking a 2-min minor. This is what pissed them off for the rest of the night, your captain can't be doing that crap.

As for the goals against, clearly Benny was at fault on the 1st goal and Buff on the 2 goals in the 3rd. Buff can't be trying to pass cross-ice through 3-preds at the offensive blue-line and on the 3rd goal he drops to his knees at centre ice trying to knock down a pass when he is the last guy back - unnecessary. I like Buff, but those 2 plays make me wonder if he was screaming to Benny for the pass across on the 1st goal.

As jetsnation mentioned, no big deal, its a loss to a top team. The positive is that the effort and passion were really good. This is a great rivalry and something all of us Jets fans have been craving for YEARS!

I stupidly actually shut it off with a minute or 2 left in the game. Oops! Oh well, 3 more meetings with the Hawks, but i'm guessing the Wild will be in their rearview if they can't find more scoring from a few of the other dozen or so players.

on the Josi goal, if you watch the replay you'll see wheeler standing right beside him at the red line and then go for a line change. You are taught at a young age not to change when the play is heading back to our end. If Wheels back checks on that play instead of changing that goal doesn't happen

what direction do you see the wild going now with the new GM? will Staal be traded this year if you are not in playoff hunt? what do you estimate the cost will be?

Kind of difficult to say really. So far Fenton really hasn't done ANYTHING even noteworthy.

If they look playoff worthy I'd say no, they won't trade him. But I know if I were the GM and it looked like they were even remotely going to miss the post season, i'd trade Staal and try to move Coyle and Neiderrieter. This Wild club needs a big time shake up.

Not sure what can be got for a Coyle or Nino, but I would say Staal should bring back at least a decent prospect and/or 2nd round pick.

I agree, that a bigger shake up is needed. With the way some young players are entering the league and making big impacts right away, accumulating a couple extra 1rst and 2nd round picks can pay off much faster than in years past.

You can happily have Dano , Lemieux, Morrow and a second for Staal at the deadline. Not that many capable NHL centers will be available. Jets need one for our second line

A couple of things coming down the pipe here regarding our roster and an upcoming six-game homestand.

1) Before the Edmonton game on Tuesday the Jets will need to demote one or two players with the return of Petan

2) Maurice and Chevy really would like to carry a 22-man roster , especially at home to save cap money for a potential acquisition at the deadline

3) Maurice likes the idea of having 8 defensemen around because it makes practice flow better with four lines and 4 sets of defensemen. That however would mean recalling Poolman. Very Unlikely.

Kulikov is definitely staying which leaves Petan, Lemieux , and Dano vulnerable. Lemieux is back to the Moose for sure because he clears waivers. Do the Jets go to 22 men though for the homestand. It makes total sense while the Jets are in town. That would mean one of Petan or Dano needs to clear waivers. The consensus is Petan would not clear waivers. Dano might. The other option is sending Vesalainen down before he hits 10 games. However, he has played quite well so its becoming a less likely option with every game.

Bottom line is barring a Sunday injury to a regular something is going to have to give . Trade Petan or try and waive Dano may be the most viable options if the 22 man roster is to happen.

They might try dropping Kulikov down and hope he gets claimed; they are paying him a lot of money right now to sit in the press-box. If he doesn't get claimed then at least he gets some playing time.

I fully agree, there are usually multiple plays/decisions that lead to a goal. Wheels needs to back-check his ass off in that situation and didn't. But, it all started from a terrible decision by Buff.

I saw what you saw on the three goals, didn't think of Buff potentially calling for the pass across but didn't like his decisions on #'s 2&3. That said they had opened up to score therefore more risk in their game. Also didn't like the backchecks from Scheif and Wheeler on Josi goal. Were they that gassed?

Hamhuis was 3rd man in when Wheeler started the scrum but Hamhuis didn't drop his gloves. Wheeler knew who he wanted but was blocked. Again - preds didn't look like a team that could hold together through a physical 7 game series. Saw some great hockey last night, hoping for more in April.

Vesalainen and Lemieux are 100% down with the Moose by game 10.

Lemieux offers nothing we don’t already have a superior option for, and Vesalainen has been invisible with no playing time

I just don't see Vesalainen going past 10 games played with Jets. He has been OK and improving but not enough to stick yet.
