Garbage plays continue to set the league back. Using physical play to separate man from puck has and always will have a place in the sport. throwing someone from behind to the ice against the boards because you got your ankles broken cannot have a place in the game longer term. I actually thing that the league as a whole has gotten the whole headshots are unacceptable message. I think now the league needs to come down harder on the guys that continue to not get the message.

The NFL & NBA protect and market their stars and young players. The NHL does neither.

These kinds of things have no place in the game! I fear this kind of nonsense will continue until the league finally learns to hand out punishment that is harsh enough to act as a deterrent.

Now it happens to one of their smaller very talented players. Welcome to our world. This crap happens all the time. Either penalize it properly or get rid of the instigator & let the players police it themselves.

I think if a player intentionally injures another player, they should be suspended until the injured player is healthy enough to come back. That would go a long way towards taking this kind of dangerous play out of the sport.

Many Canucks fans praised Hamonic for what he did.

Travis Green gets that Matheson needs to answer for that pathetic display of lack of sportsmanship. Not sure there is a single player on that roster that is up for the task though. We do know the NHL will not do anything meaningful. Petteerson should lawyer up because that was an assault, not a hockey play. Mathesn is absolutely pathetic and should be embarrased for his actions. The kid is 19 years old for crissakes.

Kevin, you are very very wrong. I dont recall a single canuck poster giving anything but massive praise for Hamonic for standing up for Dube and fighting Gudbranson (despite the outcome).

Honestly I don't see anything dirty about the play at all. Doesn't hit him in the head, yes gives him a bit of a crosscheck to knock him into the boards, but nothing more than a 2 minute penalty in my view. Calling it predatory is a huge stretch, the puck came back down low to Pettersson, what's he supposed to do, just let him get the puck while staring at him? Pettersson needs to learn to toughen up and not be such a p***y.
