Let's go Flyers! Hoping to see some drastic improvement in defense and goaltending today.

I'm hoping the Beatles got this one:
It's getting better all the time...(it can't get no worse)

Seriously, they can't get worse than the last 2 periods against Columbus?

Right??

right?????

It's early, but we obviously need for team d to get it going. It's a bad combo when your top two way dman is playing poorly, the rest of the team isn't helping out and your tenders aren't making any momentum saves.

Recipe for a losing streak. Regarding goaltending, not all on them but we don't even need the guys to steal a game. Just make the big save at the right time. Didn't get that vs Florida for example until the shootout.

What I really hope to see today:

Provorov has a strong game
3 periods of smart, hard working hockey
a Flyers goalie getting through a game without giving up a softy

Yeah, I ask a lot.

Can I add "basic" in there. It will make me feel better.

"3 periods of smart basic, hard working hockey"

Do:
Short quick passes to exit and enter zones. No play to make, cycle or pin puck. Screw your teammate, if you have the shot take it, but just get it on net at the least.

The Flyers tend to be successful this way. When they try to open it up they look like they are playing the Penguins and we all know how that normally ends.

Yea, I agree. In the Columbus game the Flyers gave up a good amount of good looks at the net in an attempt to make the extra pass and make the perfect play.

Also noticed too many times when the Flyers were changing, players would carry the puck in against 2 or 3 defenders, shoot and miss the net and quick transition the other way.

I just want them to play simple basic hockey so they are not leaving their subpar goalies to be the difference in the game.

I had high hopes for Pickard, but for a guy fighting to stay in the NHL his focus is not up to my standards.

He needs to be shed, but remember he has to play 10 games or be on the roster for 30 days before that happens.

Bad line changes behind the play have been a regular occurrence. Also not getting the puck deep and easy open ice for the transition play the other way. I posted on the previous thread that the next practice will have to involve work on fundamentals rather than tailored to the next opponent or more advanced wrinkles. No excuse for it.

I think if the team played better in front of them, so would the goaltenders.

Agree 100%.

I personally believe the teams that win consistently play the best fundamental hockey, not because they are more skilled.

I am calling it. The Flyers will look like a different team today and WIN in regulation.

As for future games...who knows.

Definitely true. The best teams just don't make a lot of mistakes. The Flyers are a much better team than they've shown so far this season, they've just played mistake filled hockey. The Flyers created so many scoring chances for Columbus with just plain bad hockey. Mostly from their best players.

AND that is the most frustrating part, swapping out 4th line players isn't going to fix the problem. Just like every other year, their best players need to be their best players or they lose. That simple.

Yup, for the Flyers to start winning the following need to happen:

Provorov needs to be Provorov.
Voracek, and to a lesser extent Giroux, must do a better job of hustling back on D and leading by example.
The goalies need to make the routine saves.

If all of the above happen, this will be a much better team. It's really not that complicated.

The Flyers 4th line hasn't been the problem.
