Quenneville got fired. He still had next year on his contract but he is a free agent now. Why would the Hawks have any say where he goes next? I'm under the impression that even though Chicago still pays him, he is free to go where he wants without any compensation.

In contract law, this isn't how it usually work as he likely technically wasn't fired. He was likely only relieved of his coaching duties.

Perhaps his contract had a clause that deals with termination, i.e. automatic payment amounts based on when he was fired but in my experience that is a lot less likely though most of my contract experience is not sports team related.

further evidence confirming my logic -

People are using fired as a lay term, not the real legal term imho.

There’s no way the Hawks allow the Blues to interview him before his contract is up.

The hawks could "trade" Q to the blues though

I am sure they would ask for Kostin

So The Blues sit Jaybo and Allen and still don't play a good game and yet win hmmm

I could be wrong but I disagree. If Q really wanted to come here I just don't see Chicago stopping him after everything he has done for their franchise and considering the fact they made the decision to let him go.

"we don't want you but they can't have you either" That may work in some cases but I don't think you do that to a guy like Q.

Over their last 5 games, the Hurricanes have outshot their opponents 207 to 121.

They've been outscored 16-7

Obviously if Jason is correct based on contract language then whoever gets him would have to make it work for him and Chicago financially.

Would have scored at least 3 if Allen was in net and probably a 4th that wouldn't have been his fault with Bouwmeester on ice.

Unlikely. They can't score on anyone.

BINGO,

Have they been taking easy to get, low percentage shots or just not converting on quality chances? They had a number of quality chances last night though they got almost 40 shots so some are bound to be quality.

It's been kind of a combination. They get a handful of real good looks per game, but they seem to be coming off the sticks of guys like Jordan Martinook or Lucas Wallmark rather than the guys you would hope to see them from. There never seems to be anyone getting to rebounds, and we really only have one line that's capable of scoring.

Huge quantities of low percentage shots, and nobody converting on the actual good chances they DO create.

Meanwhile every single mistake ends up in the back of their own net.

It's frustrating, because the coach refuses to change the lines up, and he's putting guys like Lukas Wallmark or Brock McGinn out as extra attackers instead of actually talented players.

The key is that they still didn't play a good game.

You can win a game here or there with a goalie playing great. But that isn't going to be the norm. With Allen, Johnson, or any other goalie.

The Blues need to play better hockey. They are where they are in the standings because they haven't been good. Not because of Allen.

Allen obviously also needs to be much better. But the Blues have been terrible in front of their goalies.

I could be wrong too... I wonder though, from a respect perspective, would it be just as disrespectful for Quenneville to request to be interviewed by the Blues as the Hawks denying that request?
