I would do Skjei in a second, to me the issue is what we would have to add...

probably looking at a 1st or one of the 1st rounders from last draft

Extremely high on Kravtsov pre-draft, was hoping he would slide down to the Flyers. I personally think Kravtsov will be the Elias Pettersson of 2018 draft.

As for Nylander, the term "elite" gets thrown around way too much. A 1st and a mid-roster player would be enough, especially if he wants 8M+. Toronto using the "oh yeah then we will keep him!". Awesome! Then he would be signed now.

I would absolutely deal Skjei in a Nylander deal

what I am not willing to deal is the Rangers first round pick

Watching DeAngelo and Pionk play it makes it easier to include Skjei in a trade for top talent.

But yea no way they should trade a first round pick

I feel like Skjei’s stock has dropped over the past year or two. I don’t think he’d be the centrepiece of a Nylander deal. Would need to be something very significant added

William Nylander is 23, coming off back to back 60 point seasons and has a ppg of .73 during his NHL career. It would not be unreasonable for the Leafs to ask for Skjei, Andersson and 1st.

it also would open up room for Hajek and Lindgren when they are ready

Unreasonable, maybe, but are you willing to pay that high price knowing where NY is right now? If giving a first, no way you do a 2019, maybe a 2020.

Tom isn't willing to pay that price, I think he's just saying that's what Toronto will want

Back to back 20g 60 point seasons at 20-21. If I'm Toronto I would be asking for a hell of a lot in a trade

Would definitely give up the 2020 1st rounder. No way I do this year though. Could recoop the 2020 later possibly

No. But that is what the Leafs could ask for.

the Rangers just cannot put the first round pick in a deal for anything

even though they are a lot better than expected, fact is their ROW is still the worst in the league and they could just as easily lost those 4 shootout wins than won them

this pick is still about 90% chance of being in the lottery, high in the lottery, can't risk it

Unless they think Nylander is better than anything they could get in the draft this year

Yup, Neither side is going to like what they are giving up in a trade.

This isn't a scenario where he is getting sold for picks and prospects. Legit high end players going both ways.

Skeij is not that.

I think you are undervaluing Skjei, especially seeing the state of your blue line, save for Reilly. Doesn’t Gardiner still have to be signed long term as well.

Just because Skjei is a (slight) upgrade to TO’s blueline, doesn’t mean he’s in the same stratosphere as Nylander, talent-wise or value-wise
