Trade option #4

keep him and make sit a year.

I'm kinda of leaning that way too (and yes I also read Jonas' article today).

Actually I am hoping that the leafs trade Nylander, he’s left a bad impression that I won’t soon get over. I’d rather have a player who would give his 1st born to play with the Leafs. Those are the guys that are going to leave it all on the ice for the team/fans. Guys like Nylander don’t care if they win, just want the cash. He overvalued himself, and doesn’t show up every night when he is here. Trade him.

Peter Tessier - The Nylander situation has nothing to do with Tavares. Dubas is not handcuffed. He has $12 million in space this year and $30mil next year. The problem is Nylander wants to be paid $1.25-2mil more than any young comparable winger. One of which (Pasrnak) is a better player.

The only way a rival GM is giving Dubas a lifeline is by agreeing to pay Nylander $8 mil per.

The fact is that teams have to consider both trading valuable assets AND paying Nylander 8 million dollars. Can the kid carry a line on his own?

Appreciate all your opinions but dont agree with them...for the most part

Leafs window to win is opening ...not closing. so there is 0 (read as ZERO) pressure to trade WN now.

I say sign him for no more than $7Mper or trade him but only if there is a good, even hockey trade to be made (think Tampa-Montréal). Otherwise let him sit. We are not going to accept Pesce unless there are other significant assets coming back. We lose nothing and gain salary cap if he sits out. We can make a deadline day acquisition for a forward/defenseman on an expiring contract if need be by trading a pick or something. We then revist this ordeal in the summer of 2019. If anything the pressure is on the WN camp if he misses the year and come right back to square one and the same situation next summer - he would have missed a whole season of NHL for nought....we have his rights for the next 5years min

Big shocker that Tanner thinks the Coyotes. Does he know there are other teams in the league?

......I’m more than ok with letting him sit as well. What’s he going to do, go play in the KHL for a year at $4mil.......and risk injury? That would be smart......not! And what an insult that would be......I’ll play for KHL at $4 mil but want double to play for Leafs! Let him sit.

I'd be fine with the proposal if it was for a guy who has played a full season. Chychrun already has a history of always getting hurt.

You sound like a Habs fan talking about French Canadians. You do realize that, being from Sweden, he had not ties to the team prior to being drafted, right?

what are you basing this on? hopefully not the media. 90% of the media covering the leafs is owned by the leafs (Sportnet, TSN) so of course they are gonna trash him in the court of public opinion and make him out to he the villan. if you think about it, we have only been given one side of the story.

I think you're forgetting about the 20+ about to be tied up in Matthews and Marner there. What he's saying is you can't pay those two and Wilie what he wants with Tavaras. More or less he's saying you can't have all four of these guys making 8+ (unless they were all at 8, but the 3 mentioned won't be, JT already isn't). I think that's what he was saying. You guys are better off upgrading your D with the savings and adding JT, IMO.

I agree with you that its not ideal to have to deal with all three members of the MNM line in 2019. the point i was trying to make is that the situation is less dire than the mainstream media is making it out to be.

Oh, I forgot: he's a Maple Leaf, which makes him only slightly better than Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr, two scrubs who never wore the blue Leaf. So yes, every NHL team should be clamoring to give up top-rate assets and pay him a ridiculous amount of money for a ridiculously long time.

Ahhhh do you don’t want Dubas to fill any holes of the players leaving who are taking up cap space now?

Got it.

Nylander comes from money and could make a decent living to supplement his family money in his home country. He has got a set of balls on him to play chicken with Dubas as well. I initially thought leafs had the most leverage here but I don’t think that’s the case.
Value in a trade? Only if the team can afford him and he wants to play for them. So his value has taken a hit... more leverage for nylander. In a system stacked against the players he is doing an admirable job of self-advocating

Why is Nylander asking for $8M?

(a) His numbers are similar to Marner and Eichel. The latter is making $10M and Marner is estimated to be Worth around $8.5M. Pastranak is a steal at $6.75. The last time you went to your boss for a raise i bet that you used the higher comparables.

(b) You dont typically get a NTC on your first deal if its Under $8M. Everybody and their grandmother has heard that the leafs need D and their best trade chip is WN. He wants to be a Leaf and win here

(c) If he does get signed and then traded....lets say to ARZ for OEL (just for poops and giggles) he would be their most skilled player. If that happens no way hes happy about making just $1M more than Galchenyuk for 8years while out-performing him significantly.

This is why the Leafs are going to have to raise their offer frm $6M to the $7M-$7.25M range
