I like this deal and Dvoraks. Same with Tuch and Schmidt in Vegas, not sure why you questioned those on your Sunday write-up. Tuch is the same age as Dvorak and Schmidt is a fun guy to watch eat up minutes on the backend.

While I have not agreed with tanners hype over the past seasons, the kid is signed for what many #4 D men are making.......So looks like a very good signing, especially if he can stay healthy. Knees are always a huge concern going forward. Now they need to assess if other D men need to be removed. Their top 6 D will combine for 27M, which is manageable, however, one of the highest in the nhl surpassing the current Jets/Lightning/Flames/Preds/Blues, who arguably have a stronger D core. Not that they have many other boys expecting big pay increases (maybe Keller in 2 years). How is strome developing?

I like this signing - but as somebody mentioned above - the Tuch signing is essentially the same thing and I liked that signing quite a bit too.

Tanner's homerism's have become way more reasonable lately but it is clear that he has a hatred for Vegas and George McPhee so he has to criticize them every possible chance.

Coyotes DOMINATED Corsi 54-46 last night. I didn't even have to watch the game, the Corsi is enough for me to know that the Coyotes DOMINATED!

Just got unlucky and lost by 5 "goals."

The Red Wings are SOOOOOO lucky. They lose last night's game like 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time. You can trust my math.

I honestly hate how everyone's opinion that someone doesn't like gets automatically reduced to some kind of bias. Signing Tuch for a long term deal is nothing like doing it with Chychrun. Chychrun is a potential top two dman, while Tuch is a middle six forward.

You should lock in stars and young players. Alex Tuch has a career high of 37 points

good contract for what I suspects eventually becomes the second best dman from that draft.

Doesn't seem fair to refer to Chychrun's hypothetical potential (not present) and then focus on Tuch's present (and not potential).

And it seems like there's a huge lack of context to say that "Tuch has a career high of 37 points." It was his rookie season! And this year he has 9 points in 10 games.

Tuch has big potential. He's young, big and skilled. Just like Chychrun.

Tuch is 22 and theoretically closer to his peak age of 24 while Chychrun is only 20.

Yes, but everyone knows JT loves spinning out yarns of positivity and negativity based on "hypothetical" potential.

If he says it out loud, well then it must be true.

Your point does have validity, but you have to understand the way the cap works, and especially with small market teams, it really gives teams a lot of incentive to take gambles on overpaying young potential stars in the hopes of getting them really cheap down the road.

If the Coyotes get lucky and Chychrun becomes a top pairing player, his contract will be among the best bargains in the league. I agree that if we're just basing it on his play to date, it's a terrible overpayment, but that's just not how the league works.

The difference is that Tuch is two years older, and he almost certainly is at his absolute best a second liner. You can pretty much get second line forwards wherever you need them, and I just don't think it makes sense to hand out long term contracts to mid range players.

Chychrun potentially has a way higher ceiling. Plus, he's a defenseman and its a premium position. Second line wingers are needed, no doubt, but they are about the easiest thing to get and cap flexibility is probably a bigger asset than any player that isn't elite.

I don't agree that second line forwards are as easy to come by as you make it sound. Especially not forwards at 6'4. I guess you can throw anybody on the 2nd line and call them a second line forward.

I don't know how you can say with such certainty that Tuch "almost certainly is at his absolute best a second liner." Are we working with the same information, James?

He was taken 18th overall and he's been very productive at the jr., college and AHL levels. He put up 15 goals in his rookie season last year playing 15 minutes a game. With even small improvements he looks like a guy who will be a 20+ goal scorer for a long time.

So he's a young big talented player with a good pedigree, who's shown the ability to score and looks like he'll be able to score at a top 6 rate over the next several years. Seems to me like the kind of guy you should lock up long term.

In fact, his production last year (and the cap hit and term on his extension) is remarkably similar to Christian Dvorak. I seem to remember you describing that deal as a smart one for the team to make. I'm interested in what you think is so different in Tuch's case.

The Difference in those two players is obvious!
One plays for Arizona(and is loaded with potential) While the other plays in Vegas(and has limited upside)
Make sense now?

the guy is 22, make perfect sense to talk about his max output yet

not to forget he having a fine start (after his injury), to soon to say he not worth that contract
