Bob Duff: The Cholowski-Chychrun Debate Up until Tuesday, the only times their paths crossed was a brief encounter during the 2016 NHL Scouting Combine. “I’ve never played against him, never knew him growing up or anything,” Detroit Red Wings defenseman Dennis Cholowski said of Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun.

I am really impressed by Cholowski. He’s done everything he was asked to do. He and Chychrun are different players. At first, i thought we got the short end of that deal. But, Hronek has upside and Cholowski has begun to come on. AZ should be happy with what they’ve got, he’s a good player. But, all of a sudden, i feel like Kenny has done a much better job than i thought he did. Lots of good prospects

Only seen 2-3 Det games this year, but Cholowski has looked great! On pace for 40 points while having relatively sheltered role, just think what he can do when his entry level is up, and the only remaining contract on D is Dekeyser. He will be playing a very big role for the boys in no time. If you want, my devs will gladly give your our 2016 #6 overall pick (Zacha), for Cho (20th).... What a horrible draft for my guys. You could have put the names on a dart board and made out better than Zacha.....

Pump the breaks on Cholowski.

5v5 play is barely adequate.

Powerplay numbers are good but he has benefited from a very high on-ice sh%

Just trying to stop the hype machine before it gets out of control.

I think you're being negative just to be negative. I am by no means a kool aid drinker, but I think Cholowski has been a huge bright spot. Less than 20 games played & he's already playing top 4 & not looking out of place. I think he's already our 2nd best Dman (I know, not saying much).

At any rate, I think think there's reason for optimism in the future. Larkin is starting to show signs that he can be dominant. Mantha has shown the ability to be dominant - if he can find the will to do that regularly, he could make great strides too.

They've been playing real good hockey on this run & I think that will have a great impact on the kids' confidence. I feel better about the future than I have at any point in the last 4-5 years at least.

I'm just looking at things realistically. Is he good? Yes. Just saying not to overhype him.

I have not heard much about Svechnikov. Where is his development at?

Oh come on Feds... lighten up a little. You were saying a while back that AA wasn't a top 6 forward either. Yeah... this team is still mostly a trainwreck with all the bad contracts. But the kids are lookin' pretty good (gotta give them some credit). Hoping Hronek keeps progressing too as he should be on the team next season I'd say.

Haven't seen Zadina play yet in GR as I've not made it to any games. Planning on going in the next week or two. Despite, Holland and his horrible management of this team.. I'm finally feeling somewhat good about the future.

I agree he is not that good, can we have him for a 5th (it will be an early one this year!)?

Knee surgery. Out most or all of this year. Had an outside shot to make the team before the injury.

That sucks, I am really interested in this players development, especially with how well the Red Wings have done with Russians in the past.

I'd put him in the same category as Mantha. If he can actually develop a work ethic like Larkin, he's definitely top 6. If he's lazy, he's worthless. He's been both at times this year & throughout his career so far.
