Meh....the Leafs love is too strong in the Barrie area. I think that there needs to be some sort of social separation or divide to have teams exist in close proximity. Some element that makes rivalry a tangible thing. Something that inspires fans to pick a side. I don't think that thing is strong enough in Barrie & Newmarket. In truth I really can't envision another team in Canada if it isn't in Quebec City. With perhaps an honourable mention to somewhere in the east coast because they don't think much of "mainlanders". But population density could be tricky out there.

People would jump ship real fast if their own city got an NHL team. Barrie wouldn't need millions of diehard fans, just enough fans that hate the Leafs and people who love hockey.. Growing up in the Bay i went to like 20 NHL games in Ottawa and 4 games in Toronto. People will travel, and if they get to cut and hour off their commute by not having to drive DT TO all the more reason.. Make ticket prices comparable to Ottawa and make it a fun atmosphere..

This is the southern Ontario snag, and what MLSE doesn't want to give up. Cut gate prices by 50% or MORE in most cases is a lot off the bottom line. Don't they own and run the concessions too? They have every person in attendance coming and going.
