Just would like to point out that Kampf and Keith looked pretty good last night. I know Kampf is Colliton's favorite, so it's nice to see him getting an opportunity.

Keith looked quick and shifty with the puck, repeatedly made Anaheim forecheckers give up when it was Keith behind the net faking out their F1.

Kampf had a few plays that really helped him stand out, I hope we don't move him right now as he's playing a very fast game. He hasn't been able to finish much, but his chances will come with this consistent showing.

Good points, but Sprong would have to make a helluva pass with 2 Hawks in the passing lanes. And again, it never goes in, if he stands up and hugs that post. He could that and anticipate any pass to a trailer. They're not mutually exclusive.
Instead, Sprong makes a good shot on a goalie that telegraphs his positioning coming off the plane.

I'd agree it was stoppable, I just don't think it was so terrible to give up that one. Probably that goal doesn't get scored from that angle 9 times out of 10. Usually a chance like that is high or wide or show low into the pads and doesn't go in.

I dunno if the Hawks actually had that passing lane covered. Hard to say with the angle, but he'd be passing in front of the guy going wide to put it where he is going to be, so maybe depends if they could have gotten a stick on it, but there seemed to be some room. In the end, Crawford wasn't outstanding, but still made some good saves in that game. Seems the Ducks were shooting from everywhere and the puck was flying.

Kampf is a solid depth guy. Not sure that he has a lot of trade value but he should definitely be able to pivot a decent third line.

Until Gagner gets injured...... then what? I do not share your "optimism" on this one.

For me, terrible is a stretch. Rarely will a guy hit that spot perfectly from that angle and he had to worry about the guy streaking in back door, so he had to be ready to push off. There wasn't much to shoot at and credit to Sprong on nailing the shot IMO. I think the goalies have to really find a balance between covering every square inch on the post and being ready to react to lateral movement. There will always be a hole somewhere.

Look how much he had covered when the shot was happening.

If Kane had scored a goal like this, we'd be talking about how great he shot it, not how awful the goalie was.

Bravo! You nailed it....I had the same thought last night.

If you lined players up at practice to try to hit that one or two inch gap from that angle they would have a hard time doing it. It was a perfectly placed shot.

Non-hockey related question, sorry, but those who like George R. R. Martin, he has a new show called Nightflyers, has anyone seen it and have a review of it for me?

Let's say the Hawks launched Q in the offseason, and they wanted to go with a young upcoming coach reflecting the new trends in hockey. Kind of like the Bears did with Nagy.

Where on that list would Colliton appear? Pretty far down is my guess....

I’m more than worried, I went back and watched that 2nd goal, Crawford not only flinched, he turned his head away from it and kinda ducked (pun not intended) away.

I thought Crawford looked completely out of sorts on the 2nd goal. Didn’t look right, didn’t react right - in odd position facing out and as you say then flinched and ducked with puck going in behind him. Why was Crawford facing out and not tracking the shooter off to the side. Then he just stayed in his crouch not moving. Foley wasn’t sure what was happening either.

I know you want there to be something more to it than it is, but I don't think your alluding to some type of post-concussion issue is the case at all here. It was a bad goal from a bad angle. Plain and simple, man.

It happens.

Again, a lot of goalies flinch at shots that are high and tight into the shoulders/head area.

Let's see if we can get to double digits. I'm glad that Crawford and Ward are healthy and we aren't subjecting any young goalies to this right now.

Yeah, that was what last year was for, haha.
Hopefully we find the win column after 5 straight losses.

Hopefully we win 15 in a row and then enough to win the Central, then the Western Conference and then the Cup.

If you think Crawford did not look off on that play you are not looking hard enough. Crawford simply did not look natural on that play. I have been saying Crawford has been having trouble with quick moving shooters. It is harder to notice as a problem because when he can square up to slow moving or stationary shooters he is making saves. However, on quick break-ins he is very easily beatable. Someone actually had stats showing that opposing players were scoring at a high frequency off break-ins which did not surprise me.

This problem goes back all the way to when he first returned. Crawford was playing well, then a break-in occurred and the shooter scored easily. I said to myself Oh Oh. Kept happening. In the LA shoot-out shooters scored too easily. Crawford is normally a bulldog in shoot-outs. Posters said it was Kopitar and Kovalchuk. So what? Hawks sent Toews and Kane who were historically among the best and a rookie goalie bested them. Crawford’s problems have continued right up to goal number 3 last night.

As did everyone I watched the reports about Crawford’s training. I was concerned that there did not seem to be a great amount of time between the period where he was having setbacks and his clean bill of health.

It’s hard to see without slowing it down but, Crawford actually turned away from the shot and ducked his head. Here’s the replay:

Here’s Crawford as the shot was being taken:
