Vancouver wants either that 1 or 2 pick to pick up the brother. I think k Stan wants a larger deal and he would be what stan wants and is willing to give up. But hey we shall see.

As unlikely as it may be that Pettersen is traded, the personal attacks are unwarranted. T1 has been loud and often in his ideas about "blowing it up". There have been numerous trades that don't make a whole lot of sense on paper (Hall for Larsson straight up????).

At this point, I think we are all waiting/hoping for some kind of move to happen, until then, let's just argue the points and not the people.

@JayZawaski670

I wrote about it for 670 The Score and it will be posted soon, but the Blackhawks interest in Sam Gagner was confirmed to me earlier today. Not sure what they'd give to get him, but the interest is there.

Jay usually has some good sources.

Maybe this is related to the Seabrook news I heard? A larger deal perhaps?

so now that Q is gone and things have not changed . Why does Bowman still have a job . It is clearly lack of talent . Overpriced salaries that cant be moved . Losing every trade he makes . This is clearly the responsibility of the GM . Its time .
- hawk66

He has a job because in a results oriented business he has produced 3 Cups and lots of wins. He's moved overpriced salaries many times. Remember Campbell to Florida? Hossa? Bickell?

He's won several trades, go look at the names on the Stanley Cup. Too many to list but Handzus, Vermette, Oduya, Vermette, Frolik and Leddy come to mind. Last year he traded Hartman for a 1st round pick and a player. This year he traded Schmaltz for 2 former first rounders. He traded Clendening for Forsling.

Tallon inherited Crawford, Keith, Buff and Sebrook from Mike Smith and Marshall Johnstone who Tallon fired then his NHL teams were so bad that the Hawks picked 1st and 3rd overall. Do you remember how bad of a coach Denis Savard was?

The current roster is thin because this time was sold to get 3 Cups. End of Dynasty.

I've got a lot of time for Stan Bowman and look forward to what he does now. I'm pretty sure Rocky does too.

It won't be long before Toronto, Nashville, Winnipeg and Tampa will all have to sell low due to the Cap. Bowman in his 2nd act will be ready with a cather's mitt, veterans with expiring contracts and Cap space. Most of those teams will be blown up without a Cup let alone 3.

It is easy to say fire someone but hard to identify anyone who grew up in the greatest hockey home of all time, spend 20 years learning, has a track record of success and has managed to stay out of the spotlight to replace him.

50 years from now after Bowman is in the Hall of Fame, people will look back at the incredible success he had in an era designed for one and done Champions and be in awe.

Many of us had to endure Bill Wirtz and Bob Pulford for too long. I'll take 3 Cups, and a rebuild over trading for Diduck at the deadline anytime.

There is no universe anywhere where Vancouver trades Pettersson. He is about as untouchable as any young player in the game.
- hereismike1

I said similar earlier it's fun to think of trades but Vancouver is not trading Petterson .

I would take a 3rd for Gus in a heartbeat. Gus is not Kempny. Kempny knew how to play D, Q just did not like his game. Gus does not know how to play D and may never learn. If Gus is traded and puts it together with another team I will say good for him. However, right now he cannot play for the Hawks. His play affects the whole team.

Kempny is an elite skater while Gus is not. And not completely useless in his own zone lol. Maybe a dumb pass every few shifts but for the most part stuff you can live with based on his usage.

Agree with Chunk here on all points.

I'd definitely like the trades Taylor suggested.

Not necessarily. I could see them trading him for Hughes. Aside from that, I agree completely.

JC seems to really respect Kampf as a player. Don’t know that Kampf deserves this level of respect, at the NHL level, but let’s see it play out. At some point with players like Kampf it is not just about what they are doing, it is about who they are blocking.
- Z3Hawk

That's a key point about making sure certain players who are expendable or just plain horrid don't block another player (i.e. prospect) from ascending in to that role.

Timing is everything so you want to make sure the prospect gets promoted at the right time that is healthy for his growth but not have the player in the role currently staying past his "use by" date.

This team and each player need an identity or role going forward for this to turn around in a year or two.

- scott.jackson

This is pivotal as well: identify the role you want each player to be in and slot them appropriately. For prospects, identify the role that best suits what they bring to the ice (or not bring as well) and develop them to eventually fill that role.

Flexibility to groom them for multiple roles is a plus.

Gus barely makes minimum salary so where is the cap gain? Actually for the extra year on that contract, he is a bargain and would be unnecessarily easily snapped up.

Anisimov is one of the very few players we have who goes into the tough areas in the offensive zone and the further we get into his contract the less it is out of line. Also as thin as we are at the center position who do we have to replace him? Some may say to go the UFA route, but do you see what centers are going for?

Manning types are on every team. Our forwards are being mugged at the other end while their forwards get 5/6 whacks at the puck in our blue paint when we go with a roster full of soft defencemen. I would retain Manning and welcome Murphy back so we can retake possession of the area in front of our net. I also do not want to see Debrincat or other skilled players have to fight because they have no one backing them.

- 67hawks

On Gustafsson: He does have a favorable salary but so would someone like Dahlstrom who may be able to provide better defense than him. Offense would be sacrificed but defense is the bigger team deciciency right now. If Gustafsson can improve his defense, then there would be less complaints about him.

On Anisimov: Totally agree that he is one of few Hawks who go to the slot and has a relatively attractive salary for what he provides. While not great on faceoffs, he also provides center depth on a team that still needs it.

On Manning: Again, agree with your perspectives on what he brings to the team and really do hope that the return of Murphy will help increase the physicality quotient on the backend to protect the crease and push back against rough play by the other team.

Speed is very important in the game of hockey, but I think the rhetoric today is misinterpreting what it means to be a fast hockey team. Yes, it is nice to be able to skate fast, but what I believe is truly important is being able to play fast. To make quick decisions as to where the puck should be moved, and make quick decisions as to where your body should be moved on the ice to support the puck, attack the puck, and shut down options for the puck carrier. So yes the Blackhawks need talent, but talent is truly hard to define in this game and it can mean a number of things. I think they need to continue to look for players that can make smart decisions with the puck quickly and consistently.

- LaheysBRandy

Great perspective on speed. Two examples come to mind:

Sikura is a prospect who thinks the game fast and can play fast if needed but has excellent vision to read plays in order to find his options before committing. To put it another way, he thinks fast but can play at whatever speed to make the optimal play.

Fortin, on the other hand, is super fast on his skates but doesn't think the game well at all so his options tend to be reactive to whatever comes his way once his speed gets him to where he is heading. Sometimes that reaction results in good things but a lot of times it just ends up in nothing or a turnover.

On another note, does anybody know what St. Louis is asking for Colton Parayko? Reading Eklunds latest blog about teams that are going all out for him, I know as of right now we are not even in that conversation because we don’t have pooptt to give them. Unless they want the rights to Joel Quennville Instead of coughing up 12 mill to buy him out of his Hawks contract. I don’t think Doug Armstrong Would even pick up the phone if he saw an incoming call from Stan Bowman

Somewhat related, but another article about Kane and the inability for the coaching staff to find a line that works for him.
