In all seriousness, how do people not see why it was smart to move on from ROR last offseason?

Guys who aren’t fast to begin with lose a step and they become almost worthless

- sbroads24

I mean there is no concrete proof. But their mentality has been a million times better since ROR left.

I think there is enough proof to make a determination that he needed to go.

He wanted out anyways.

He’s the man on a losing team. He’s happier there than winning games here.

Sure, all this is valid, but we were never winning the cup this year.

It was always about 2019-20 and beyond. When our window opens.

- sbroads24

I agree and disagree with what you're saying here...

This isn't a year we likely win a cup. But anything short of the playoffs at this point will be a disaster for this team. I'm not suggesting to sell the farm or give away all our high draft picks. But we MUST do something about the 2nd line center and our scoring depth on this team, before or at the trade deadline. These guys need playoff experience to take the next step in the years ahead. This is not a rebuilding year.

If they want to get into the playoffs this year I'd say rent another ufa and like Skinner.

If the ufa does well with the team and playoffs then maybe he'll re sign here.

Part of this year's plan is to allow the kids to develop, in particular, Dahlin and Mittelstadt. If they developed quickly, then it was thought that this team might have a chance of making the playoffs. As it stands, Dahlin is doing great but Mittelstadt is not quite putting up satisfying numbers. That said, Mitts is not playing terribly either and I think there will be a turning point this season where he definitely does become that true number two center that you are seeking.

My suspicion is that management is not going to change the overall plan due to this early success. If we were in the bottom of the league, there may be some early changes, but I doubt any real changes take place based on the added bonus that they are playing well now.

absolutely if this is possible.

Scandella seems to be one of the few players that another team may want and at the same time we would be willing to part with.

Yes or a 2nd or 5th rounder. It didn't take too much to bring Skinner here.

this needs to be taught....in a situation like that featuring a sniper heading into the zone with only 2.7 seconds on the overtime clock...tackle the mother...it doesn't matter...odds of them scoring from the faceoff with that much times are a 100X less than allowing Matthews a shot
- Michael Pachla

Great blogs as always Mike.

I was thinking the same thing last night. No need to play him clean.

This would lead to owners firing their GM just so they can then buyout a bad contract.

We have like 1M in cap space. Salary has to go out to bring anyone in.

Yes, yell Shoot constantly.

If they pass, grumble and say they should have shot.
If they shoot, make sure to grumble and say the pass was wide open.

Rinse, repeat.

- RhinoFan

I see we agree rhino.

I yelled tip, sam heard me. I think hes scored 7 out of 8 goals on my end. Periods 1 and 3?

Didnt realize we were that tight against the cap.

Scandella would be a good candidate then.

Whoever is yelling that to Okposo from the 100 level on the powerplay is getting their message through loud and clear

"STOP, CURL TO THE WALL AND DROP IT TO RISTO!"

- jcragcrumple

I noticed that too last night.

Okposo blasts down the side boards, not towards the net, circles and passes it to the trailing defender

I can't speak for everyone else but I don't have a problem with moving on from ROR last season. What I have an issue with and what I laid out in my post above is that we lack a 2nd line center now and you NEED a quality one to make the playoffs.

We got back a combined 7 years in deals for two guys who are playing like 4th liners with decent cap hits and Thompson who is still up in the air at this point. I think his ceiling is likely a 3rd line 30-40 point guy but right now he needs to show some more consistency. Berglund not stepping up offensively and forcing Casey into that 2nd line center roll is also a big reason why our secondary scoring is hurting right now.

- bluengold12

Would you consider flipping sam to the 2nd line center?

Didn't catch this one till now. Dahlin played 29:15 last night setting the record for most TOI for a player under 19. Doughty had the record at 29:05.

But.... jbotts brought scandella in for a reason.

He liked his play and/or fit in the lockerroom.

Between scandella and pommer, they were not going to disrupt the chase for dahiln/tkachuk

The fear I have :

Repeat of the Carolina series. Too many defensemen get injured. Last night we were down to 5 guys. With 2 or 3 already hurt.

if we don't get the bottom 9 fixed, playoffs will not be in the future

the funk with lines 2-4 has been clear since the flyer game, time to address it or go through the motions

I do know there are better players in the ahl right now then our bottom 9 and casey is not ready to be a second line center

even a minor shake up
