The Simmonds situation is more tricky then I think people want to believe. He’s one of those players that if he succeeds elsewhere, those fans wishing him gone now, will only blame the GM for trading him or not getting enough, etc.
- SuperSchennBros

Yes and no. If he gets traded for a good haul and goes on to sign a 6 or 7 year with a cap hit around 7 million per, I don't think anyone is going to be upset or start ranting or raving if he has a good season next year. No one is doubting Simmonds ability to play now or in the near future. The concern is will he be worth the money 3+ years from now and also will he be looking for an NMC. You have to take emotions out of the decision making process and balance what is best for the team today with what is best for the team moving forward.

can they can pay him 4 X 7.5

if traded, make sure it is out west...

- wcorvette

They should be able to handle 4 X 7.5. That would pretty much be as far I'm willing to go in both term and cap hit.

Looking at the Columbus roster, they really made a good deal picking up Seth Jones as their number 1D man and then drafting Dubois to replace Ryan Jo in 2016 as their #1 center.

The Panarin trade and letting Jack Johnson walk were both wins. I like how they are managed.

Can’t stand the coach though.

I used to love that line. They were the prototypical 3rd line checking unit in the clutch and grab NHL.

in memory of the 90's, lets hope the Flyers can play with a mean streak, not as much as this...

Lindros was a beast

I think that's once and future Flyer teammate Rob Zettler at the 5 minute mark just absolutely eating right hands from Lindros.

Not really. I'm not saying he's a bad player but he's seeking a 6 year deal and that's just way too long to get tied to him now.

I'm guessing that Columbus isn't the most exciting place to spend 8-9 months a year and that the locals only give a (frank) about OSU.

With the cap going up to 83 million it should give us some options.

I'm fairly certain one of the big reasons Clarke went out and got Otto to begin with was so no one else in the East would get him either.

I think that is fair to both sides, an overpay for what he has done but term you can live with. I wouldn't mind 5 years but the cap hit would have to be 6ish. I think in year 4-5 they could handle the cap or would have other options.

I prefer to trade him, this team needs more cohesion, too many players that are similar.

From what I understand -- it's second-hand, but from someone who knows him pretty well -- Mason has had several calls but unless it involves a situation he wants to join, has said no. If he doesn't play again, he's OK with that, too. Enjoying being a dad, has had injuries (including post-concussion issues that lingered much of last season) and has made quite a bit of money through hockey.

I can completely respect that. I think I might be same way.

Otto was one of the few if not the only center who could match up and handle Lindros.

Those teams could just go out and dominate, especially at the dot.

It was so much fun to watch.

I mean it’s Columbus
So the market is a lot smaller but I like the way they are building a team.

Young 1c and #1d are the key, but what happens with Bob and the goalie situation and Panarin next year are question marks.

That's how I see it. I know there are guys who have to be re-signed in the next couple years, but other than Provy, TK and Patrick, I doubt any are looking at new deals with cap hits north of 2.5 million. When you factor in AMac, Gudas, Raffl, Lehtera, Weise and Weal all off the books no later than 2020, that alone gives them 19 million to work with. They are in excellent shape when it comes to the cap and Hextall deserves full credit for it.

Same issue in Atlanta. That city is all about Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Prior to the trade for Hawerchuk, they were rolling out Lindros, Brindamour, Otto and MacTavish up the middle. Each one routinely won 60% of faceoffs. I've never seen any team in any era dominate faceoffs the way that team did.

I’m curious if they pair Provy with Hagg or Ghost tonight. I’m leaning toward Hagg.

The CLB top line is really good.
