Yes and no. If he gets traded for a good haul and goes on to sign a 6 or 7 year with a cap hit around 7 million per, I don't think anyone is going to be upset or start ranting or raving if he has a good season next year. No one is doubting Simmonds ability to play now or in the near future. The concern is will he be worth the money 3+ years from now and also will he be looking for an NMC. You have to take emotions out of the decision making process and balance what is best for the team today with what is best for the team moving forward. - BiggE
See, I think this is an overreaction post. I do. It isn’t a shot at you or anyone else. I’m saying yes I want to keep Simmonds but I also don’t know what he’s asking for. I have no idea. So while I say I want Simmonds and I think this team still needs him, it also depends on what works for both sides. I don’t think he’s a 7 million dollar player. I don’t think he should get 7 years. However, I think he’s been fair before and I think he’s a level headed guy who might be fair again. For those who were asking for the Flyers to trade for Nylander, I don’t think Nylander has ever been fair to his team and that could bite both him and the Leafs.
Love what I have read on Rick Wilson. We got the Methuselah of hockey to join us and train our defensemen for our quest to the Cup. No wonder Hak is happy. Sometimes it only takes a different perspective to find a solution. Rick Methuselah Wilson is bound to have a very interesting perspective. That’s a Win.

Hak probably likes that he even had a say in who was hired.
Gord Murphy was kind of forced on Hak.
Furthermore, Wilson and Hak have UND connections between them.
If we only forecheck with one player when the puck is dumped, it’s hak.
If the forechecker always peels away instead of making contact, it’s hak.
If the pk is passive when the other team has the puck on the half wall, it’s hak.
If sanheim isn’t in the top 4 in icetime, it’s hak.
Watch the the other teams forecheck, always more than one, always forcing a decision with a stick check or body check. When the flyers forecheck, the other teams player just waits with the puck until our forechecker turns away. The only time it changes is when we are down by 2 goals, and then we are a force on offense.

Or was it Murph + Hexy...we shall see.
PS Sanheim was certainly not ready for top 4 minutes, thus far.

I don’t think Simmonds will be as easy to sign as you think. First off, both he and his agent know that he has been grossly underpaid the last 3-4 seasons and that this also his last chance at a big money deal. He may give the Flyers a small home team discount, but at the very least his agent is looking for 5 years at 35 million or 6 years 38-39, and some GM is going to make that deal or very close to it. Plus he already has a limited NTC, and he’ll want the same if not more in his next deal.
It doesn’t mean he’s not a great guy, but it’s just the reality of how the business works.

Well then not playing him is certainly going to help him play better. Benching him for not having experience is the quickest way to get him experience.

I would rather trade
1. you can help pick the team and by pick I mean pick a team in the western conference
2. see #1, if Simmer is in the east I believe 100% he will wreck the Flyers for a long time to come.
3. Simmer deserves the contract you mentioned above, I just dont want the Flyers to give it to him

I'd trade him to Toronto and let him take his shot at a cup this season then if the team still has interest you can revisit his signing in June. The Leafs will be looking for a rental.

I agree wholeheartedly. Chiarelli is an idiot and under enormous pressure to win now. I’d offer Simmonds and our 2019 2nd for Puljujarvi and their 2019 1st. They can make it top 3 protected since odds are it ends up being, if they miss, in the 11-15 range.

Getting Stone from Senators for Simmonds, Farabee and mid round pick would be sweet - Keith25
I would rather give up Frost than Farabee, but would rather give up neither unless it was for a monster superstar

Flyers will get nowhere near his true value if they trade him to the Leafs.
