I doubt it very much. That media driven phrase, "Own Rental" is applicable here as well. Gardiner is a puck moving defenseman with good skating. You give up trade assets for that type of guy at the deadline if you can. If you already have him, you don't have to trade assets to get him. If anything, they'll look to shore up the D with another guy who has more defensive responsibility.

I think this is the likely course of action. Keepin Gardiner for this year and maybe trading his rights in late June, if you can't re-sign him

I can't see any Gardiner trade unless the leafs are getting back a better d man.
They aren't moving him to secure some "assets" before he walks next year - this s a contending team and Gardiner is needed for the run (unless he is replaced).

There is a new version out now that says "Kids up in this female dog"

Based on his comments last TDL, i cant see him trading Jake just because he is a ufa.

The Leafs didn’t resign Nylander just so they could trade Gardiner.....they are making a run at the cup this year so if Dubas does anything it will be to make them better and not because they risk losing Gardiner....the Caps risked losing Carlson but kept him anyways just for the cup run
