A penalty is a penalty, simple as that. Unless the officiating is bad, the NFL calls them. Cannot see why the NHL doesn't.

a penalty is a penalty, simple as that... there is no issue with being more physical, within the rules...

it's funny as we see the more of the physical teams having under par season so far...

hockey is a skill game, don't take that away from it !

Those ticky tack plays are what slows the game down. Watch mcdavid play, he plays at 80% of his speed because most of the time he's towing pilons around the ice who grab hold for a free ride. Some get called but most don't.

So did anyone see the Sabres- blackhawks trade proposal on hockey news podcast. I obviously think it is the biggest over payment I ever heard but interested to hear other opinion.

Sabres get Kane
Blackhawks get Reinhart, pominville, top d prospect guhle, top forward prospect Olofsson top goalie prospect ukka pecca lukien, and three first round picks all this year. Blues ( if they finish in top ten it is 2020) sabres and sharks.

League is so soft, it's like watching the KHL. Only thing the league is known for nowadays is head shots

The trade is insane plus with the sabers over .500 its not happening.

As for the actual topic, the crack down always seems to come in bunches almost as for what players can and cant do, take your chances. Special teams right now are absolutely huge the ones with good PK and good PP are raising to the top as penalties are at an alarming rate. Try to adjust and hope for the best or plan for the worst and just make sure your special teams are golden.

the game is way better now than it was 10 years ago. these players have so much more skill and its fun to watch. the league has to get rid of the head shots that hurt players. head contact should be an automatic suspension. i don't mind the PP's.

try watching old games from the 80's or 90's with all the clutching and grabbing. it's unwatchable....

I thought the NHL wanted more goals for American viewership?. Now that they have them, they are looking to take skill away and add more toughness?

"The NHL is more talking about the ticky-tack holding, hooking and interference penalties which are up in record numbers."

so the lockout in 2004-05 was for nothing?

The league should keep going toward a skill-based focus, but it should also return to being a little more physical. There were less headshots when the players could police themselves. Now there’s what, three or four enforcers in the entire league?

They need to implement a flag football atmosphere. Two flags around the player's waists. If a player bumps into another player, the player that did the bumping loses a flag. If/when the second flag is lost, that player must go to the penalty box for 5 minutes and the other team gets a power play.

So So idea that couldn't be implemented.
When its your team player doing the hitting its fine but when its your player on the receiving end its a late hit.
How is it decided? fan vote?

We don’t want our sport to end up being what 💩 football has become so this makes some sense

The NFL is a joke of a league. If you tackle a skill player in a manner other than massaging his belly, they throw a flag. Their players disrespect their country during the national anthem. And the sport is by far the most boring thing to watch on television these days

Anything to watch the Leafs on the PP a bit more. Dead last in PP opportunities again.
