off topic,

It would be great for the Jets if Brayden Point signs in Tampa before we sign Laine. I don't like when Laine is looped in with Mathews or Marner for contract talks, both those guys could compete for the lead league in points which Laine never will. Point may be a year older but has similar goals while far more points! I don't see Point signing a long term deal that starts with a 9 so I see this as a much better comparable for us.

Nice point (see what I did there?)

He’s the contract that no one is really talking about and could set the market early should he sign first. Anyone know who his agent is?

... what? Laine will likely lead the league in goals for a decade straight. That alone puts him in the 10+ range, and he knows it. He’s soon to be the best in the world at the most difficult thing in hockey, and I’m not sure it’ll be close once Ovechkin realizes he’s in his mid-30s

If Perreault can't play the botom 2 lines could be;
Tanev, Lowry, Lemieux
Appleton, Roslovic, Petan
One tough checking line and a line with speed and skill.

I love that 4th line. They were the best in the AHL for the 12 games they spent together. Complete and utter dominance.

That said, rip Lowry if that 3rd line happens. He’s got an unpredictable bottle rocket on one side, and an actual anchor on the other

This year and last, Laine 65 goals , 96 points , Brayden point has 53 goals and 107 points. You want to pay Laine over 2 million more than Point???? I don’t. It’s not a smart move

Yes. Laine scores more goals, and will end up the better player in the long run. He’s better now, if were being honest

And Point gets more points, he’s a great player. Laine is worth more but not 2 million more per year and yes, I’m being honest.

Also, why is Perreault in a shooting spot on the PP? Hey, I’m glad he scored a goal and not the least bit surprised it was a rebound, that he scored. The guy with arguably the slowest release and weakest shot on the team should not be in a shooting position on your pp, just saying.

That 2nd unit has been broken for a while. Every single player is put in a position where they have to turn before they can shoot.

Ideally, you’d just run it like a mirrored version of unit one: Petan=Wheeler, Roslovic=Connor, Perreault=Scheifele, Ehlers=Laine, Morrissey=Byfuglien

When Patricia Laine decides to put forth the same kind of effort that Scheifele, Wheeler, and others give, we can then talk about him getting big bucks. He remains a one trick pony in my opinion.

It’s comments like this that remind me how toxic our fan base can be at times.

We get rewarded for our organizational ineptitude with a likely to be generational talent, and the only way you can express yourself is to talk some sexist sh*t because you don’t like how he plays.

The hockey gods have bestowed upon us the power of the boomstick goat man, and you are unworthy. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul

This may not be on the table but I would bridge Laine this summer. The guy scores goals but never when the checking is tight. He goes off on weaker teams and also really needs to work/improve on several aspects of his game before earning 10 million+. I swear his board play is regressing a little bit each season and his forechecking is pitiful. He needs to train harder to become a more explosive skater and he needs to learn how to play with a shorter stick. His elbow is so high when he carries the puck that defenders only need to bang him in the elbow area to knock the puck off his stick. This is more evident along the boards.
We have Vesalainen that also has a big shot and he has Laine in his name too. I would want the cap flexibility of Laine on a bridge deal while being afforded the luxury of watching these two Finnish snipers develop for a couple more years. Pay Laine the World in a few more years or trade him for the World in a few more years. Either way the Jets will be much healthier.

You should take shots at Maurice. It’s our right, and arguable responsibility, as fans to hold the team accountable. Maurice keeps making mistakes, so I’ll keep pointing them out. It’s the only way things change.

This is about as conspiratorial as I get:

Did the hawks fire Quenville as part of a plan to be the odds on favourite in the Jack Hughes sweepstake? Much like the leafs did a few years ago when they fired Carlyle while still in a playoff position and hired what's his name to lock down Mathews or Laine for themselves?

There is no honor in those actions Mr Bowman and Mr Shanahan (who used to be considered an honorable player). Be up front about it, tell the fans it is time for a rebuild and don't hide it - own it.

Last night, Tim Campbell/NHL.com pointed out Jets are youngest team in the league ... as long as Laine is keeping his "one trick pony" stuff up - I'm ok giving him some time to develop

I think we underestimate his passing abilities ... and listen - I was at Jets v Leafs - he was f_ckin horrible ... but he has improved greatly since Helsinki

As far as his 2nd contract goes - he'll get what the market bares ... maybe Chevy bridges him maybe not ... I had the chance once to hear from a former NHLer who played on 3 teams - he said contract negotiations: the agent, GM, and lawyers sit around a table and it's all math ... how many points/pts per game/other metrics/etc compared to other contracts, etc, etc

Chevy will have to manage cap - a good portion of what he's paid to do

Jets are 4th in the league this morning and I couldn't be happier ... they are getting better each week .. this is a f_ckin good team, boys

And isn't it great to score such a solid back-up in Brossoit for peanuts ?

A buddy of mine and I just bought tickets for the Tampa game on Sunday - and why not ? ... I'm most interested in seeing how Jets play vs Top10 teams now

SIDEBAR: game are "sold out" but have you ever noticed how many tix are available each game ? ... take a look a Jets Seat Exchange ... you can go to any game and sit in any part of the Arena

You can criticize anyone, so long as you are willing to explain your point or offer an alternative.

You can question how hard he’s trying if you want, you can question his puck handling along the walls, and you can question why he’s not always working with a skating coach to get himself rolling quicker.

You do not get to insult a player for no real reason, nor do you get to call him a “girly” name because you think it’s funny.

That’s not criticism. Be better.

Great to see Myers rounding back into his previous top pairing forum.

Allows Chevy to look at sending Trouba and Little for Toews.

Chicago is about to blow it up.
