Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks pushing for 3rd-straight win against struggling Columbus
Riding pretty high after two statement wins, coach Travis Green will keep his lineup the same as his Vancouver Canucks continue their current road trip in Columbus against a slumping Blue Jackets team that's determined to turn things around. - Carol Schram
Thanks,
So the team is starting to get healthy, Pettersson and Boeser are starting to gel together, (although I thought his hat trick was 2 lucky and one awesome goal), Markstrom is playing better.
I'm wondering if we could see a return to the October form the Canucks played. |

Thanks Carol.
Looking at that Columbus roster. It's really a one line team.
4-2 Canucks. 2 PP goals. |

Thank you for breaking down the Markstrom numbers.
If we want to validate the 'overworked' theory as the explanation for why his numbers went down while Nilsson was injured, then wouldn't we need to see if there was a downward progression in his save % towards the end of that stretch?
Any numbers enthusiasts out there who would enjoy spreadsheeting the crap out of this?

Why does everyone want to take short cuts? Rebuilds take time. Signing Karlsson would turn out infinitely worse than the Loui signing - CanuckDon
I don’t see it as a short cut rather more like adding a piece whilst expecting us to be a good team in 2020. EK will still be elite then unless injuries have truly taken a toll. Scoring D of EK’s magnitude don’t come around often. Depending on his contract he is an asset & we lack offense from D big time. |

Edler EK
Hughes Tanev
OJ EG
Hutton
Looks like a major upgrade & balanced on all 3 pairings if that’s our 2019-20 look.
Add the kids upfront on top 6 & vets on the bottom 6 & we are shaping up very well.
We still will be drafting high next draft & prospects are marinading & stockpiling up. |

Signing EK would be incredibly short sighted. We won’t be contending for a long time. I’d look forward to not being able to sign Hughes in 3 years because we signed a declining asset like EK to an 8 year deal. He ain’t signing a 3 year deal. Only true contenders should kick the tires on EK |

this may not be a good example, as it is a UFA vs RFA, but I am doing it more-so for the point that a player, elite in their respective position, may not be worth giving a long term contract when they are in their late 20's.
Karlsson will be 29 when he signs his new contract, is slowly starting to regress (stats this year prove this, despite playing with Burns/Thornton/Pavelski/Kane/etc), and all the while the past few years, was considered one of the best defenders in the league. I imagine he asks for 8 years, 9-11 million aav.
Carey Price was a RFA, signed a 8 years, 10.5aav contract when he was 29 (arguably when he was considered a top 3 goalie in the league. Carey price has 7 more years after this year at 10.5 aav and has been mediocre-at-best.
My point being, Karlsson has largely been considered one of the best players at his position the last 5 years, Carey Price the same. Kesler was a selke winner and signed an abnoxious contract with ANA which will also haunt them. I think the point Don is trying to make, is that the immediate impact of signing a player like EK will be short lived, and will eventually and sooner-rather-than-later be worse for the club than it will be better. |

Gotta say I agree. No point signing him now to an enormous contract that will be a burden by the time we’re really in a position to compete. |

I agree with this Donny. As enticing as EK is at what is maybe considered the tail end of his prime, I would be insanely hesitant to fast forward a rebuild by spending obscene amounts of money on him. Would way rather let Quinn play out his ELC and dedicate a good chunk of the cap to him if he pans out, rather than a 29 year old EK |

I believe EK will fall off a cliff soon. His play is already starting to deteriorate and he has a pretty bad injury history. Canucks shouldnt sign anyone for longer than a few years that are near/ over 30. Beagle being the exception |

5 years, $15m per. Make it lockout proof, NMC years 1-4, with an option to trade him in the final year. |

Talked to a friend who is a Boston fan, he's and others seem to be genuinely excited about two prospects they have. Axel Andersson and Victor Berglund both from Sweden, both RHD offensive defensemen. |

There is a 0% chance you have all your facts right. Price could not have been an RFA at age 29... |

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...year-contract-extension2/
he had one more year on his contract before his contract was about to expire when he signed his extension, but that isn't the point of my comparison vintsy lol. if he signed the following year, he would signed when he was 30, as opposed to 29. My point is, Despite his vezina trophy, or karlssons Norris, I am just trying to point out some of the reasons why people would be hesitant on signing EK, at 29 years old, to a massive contract. |
