I was looking at EK's all-time rosters and thought that the Jets were way too low on the list. I have compiled what I think would be the all-time roster for the Jets. Please let me know what you guys think.

Steen-Hawerchuk-Maclean
Hull-Nilson-Hedberg
Tkachuk-Zhamnov-Selanne
Laine-Scheifele-Wheeler

Housley-Lindstrom
Numminen-Byfuglien
Morrissey-Ellett

Khabibulin
Hellebyuck

Mix and match the forwards however you like, can't beat that team

Gotta add Norris trophy winner Randy Carlyle to the D, and if we extend the rules a little we can add Chris Chelios, Ilya Kovalchuk, Marion Hossa, Dany Heatly, Marc Savard, Bobby Holik, Peter Bondra, Andrew Burnett and Mark Recchi for consideration.

Okay folks, the get together at The Pint is on. I have reserved an area for 10-20 (more is fine and "the merrier") from 2:30-6:30 on Saturday January 12 before the Moose game. I'll provide the beer and wings. As I recall, Pete. Ross, Rexy and ?Ultimate? have already said they're in. Any and all are welcome.
As mentioned in previous posts, this is our Jets pilgrammage from Atlanta for 2 Moose games and 2 Jets games. Judging by the Jets fans we have met in Nashville and Tampa, I expect a good time will be had by all, and hopefully some new friendships as well.
..... a yes/no/ or maybe will be appreciated, but certainly not required.

Scott McLane

I live out of the Winnipeg area and am almost certainly a no go for turkey night in canada. All the best to you and your boys for the Moose/Jets/Thrasher pilgramage.

PS- are you ready for January weather in Manitoba?

I'd throw Kent Nilsson's ( Magic Man) name in there. I also think Enstrom deserves to be in there, he was awesome in his good days before the decline vs Morrissey. That might change in a few years .

Read this on Friedman’s 31 thoughts, I thought I’d share as I immediately thought of anylitics when I read it.

Harry Sinden told Cam Neely the Bruins needed him to get going. Neely said he was getting his chances, just couldn’t finish. Sinden replied (paraphrase), “Hey, I don’t pay you to get chances. I pay you to score.”

It's a fun list ... lots of great players came through Winnipeg ... Zhamnov was like a light switch - when he was on he was fantastic ... when he was off (which, if memory serves me correctly, happened way too often) he was a dud ... not sure you could plug V-P Ketola in his place

Leaving Williy Lindstrom off hurts a bit, too, but what the hell

I’d have Babych and I’d also strongly consider Bocheman for his overall game. Plus I have a game worn Bocheman I wear to the games I goto. He may be the all time most underrated Jet!! He was our best face off guy, he scored, he played PP and penalty kill and he dropped the gloves.

Not sure you can call Zhamnov a player who scored 267 points in 235 games a dud! Maybe it was because i was a kid then, I don't remember him taking nights off. He was a magician with the puck and consistently made his line mates better. He was the only great Russian forward drafted by Mike Smith. He almost won the Art Ross in 1994-95.

Interestingly enough both Selanne and Tkachuk had their best offensive seasons with him at center. The Olympic line will always go down as my favorite Jets line of all-time.

Does Shane Doan and his 972 career points count for anything ? and yes Keith Tkachuk and his 1065 NHL points. They both started as Jets. Maybe there should be a minimum number of games requirement in a Jets NHL uniform.

I'd also like to nominate Scott Campbell because idiot GM Ferguson thought he was better than Kent Nilsson . Worst decision ever by any Jets GM.

This was Fergie's worst decision? How about protecting Jimmy Mann? This one tops Campbell. Both were the worst decisions possible but Jimmy Mann? Big sigh...............

Edit: I am wrong on this one. Jimmy Mann was the Jets first ever NHL draft pick at #19. Quebec picked next at 20 and selected Michel Goulet, remember how Goulet could pop the puck in the net?? If you don't remember, Goulet had 548 goals and 604 assists for 1152 pts in 1089 games and was a prolific scorer in QMJHL. Next up was the Oilers at 21 selecting Kevin Lowe. The WHA teams coming into the NHL sure got screwed glued and tattooed with that expansion. Jets got Dave Christian in round 2 (but he did not want to play in Wpg) and Steen in round 5 that year as well.

Todays expansion rules are significantly more fair in comparison to those days.

Ultimate - Zhamnov was a magician ! He scored 5 goals one night vs Gretzky & Kings in LA ... he was one of those few players that seemed to skate faster WITH the puck ... he was awesome and with Tkachuk and Selanne on wings it was a great great line

AND - he used to not show up some nights ... just disappear ... not in the same way that great scorers are streaky ... he looked like he had lost all interest ... was strange

Would anyone trade Patrick Laine for Matthew Tkachuk ? I just wonder if we would be a better team if we had not won 2nd spot in the lottery and ended up with Tkachuk in our normal 6th position. He's a heckuva all-around hockey player and getting better every year vs the pure goal scorer in Laine.

BTW...I'd do this trade but I don't think Calgary would entertain it.

I was basing my team solely based on stats accumulated during players times in Winnipeg. The team was open to interpretation and if you want Shane Doan on your team, than sure!

I always think the Mike Smith moves of trading Stu Barnes for Randy Gillen, and Kris Draper for $1 US were some of the most peculiar moves ever made by Jets 1.0. I guess Mike Smith disliked Ferguson's 1989 draft.

Absolutely not. Never in a million years.
Tkachuk is not on Laine’s level, his ceiling isn’t as high, and he’s due for regression.
Let’s just remember the part where Laine almost goal’d his way to Tkachuk’s point total last season. I’ll take the guy likely to hit 50 goals consistently over the next decade over the guy who will only hit 50 points for the first time at 21

That's the conundrum. Laine scores goals like crazy but has lapses such as: nearly never wins a puck battle, or board battle, frequently looks like he is a step slower than everyone else, frequently looks lost (remember Buff yelling at him "U gotta move"), etc, etc add in any other weakness you can identify. But at 20 yo and the team has a damn good asset now and most likely 10 years from now, you can sell or move this asset likely anytime now or in the future.

I see JN's position though as if Wpg selected Tkachuk instead, it would have been ok as those Tkachuk boys are full of piss and vinegar. They won't score the goals that Laine is capable of but they sure are hard working, nasty players just like the old man. I would like to have both of them on my team.

I can't see a Wpg GM trading the friendly sniper Finn after the Teemu incident, not after three years unless he is getting the moon. Just my opinion.

Hypothetically, I am not sure I would do Laine for Tkachuk, but maybe for Dahlin or that Pettersson kid. That Pettersson kid is so smart, so patient, so smooth.

And, using JN's analogy, had Vcr picked earlier, would they have selected Pettersson? Were they better off to pick #5?? I would rather have Pettersson than the #2, 3 or 4 pick that year.

Hmmm. Laine has 24 goals and 31 points . Tkachuk has 18 goals and 47 points and heading for at least 90 pts. Both play on the 2nd line . Both drafted the same year and essentially the same age. Tkachuk is a very complete player at both ends of the ice. Laine is a long way from being a complete player. You say Tkachuk is due for regression....lol. Based on what ? Your gut feeling ? So far you've been wrong on just about every player you've ever mentioned. If I were Chevy I'd be picking up the phone right now and doing the trade just based on the fact that Rexy said its a bad deal. Its an uncanny ability you have to get everything so wrong. You'd be very valuable to a lot of stock market contrarian traders, that's for sure.

Yeah, the Kris Draper move, sure worked good for Draper and the Wings. How many cups did Draper get? Three? Another boner Wpg GM move.
