But I was just commenting on the one play you mentioned.
Listen, hockey is a fast paced game ON ICE. Everyone will make mistakes. Thats the game - the team that makes the fewest mistakes usually wins.
Vats is our best D, for the 10% mistakes he makes, like you said 90% is good. If that 10% always costs the games, then you can blame the team for them not doing their part.

1. Severson - most consistent this year

2. Vatanen - loved him last year, super sloppy this year
(huge gap)
3. Will Butcher on offense
4. Old Andy Greene when you don't really notice him
(huge gap)
5. Ben Lovejoy on a PK, and only on a PK
6. Will Butcher in his own end
(huge gap)
7. Mueller - those two or three games he strings together when you think you're getting what you think Shero saw in him when they draft protected him
8. Mueller - every other game other than the two or three mentioned above
9. Santini and Yak - not enough data
10. Ben Lovejoy not on a PK

You forgot that if lovejoy doesn't retire we will probably re-sign him, great veteran leadership!

Kinda hard to follow your points, but Vats is still our #1 D regardless not being as strong as last season. Severson surely is progressing and looking better. Mueller has been a solid #4 D and would likely perform better than LJ on the PK. Butch needs more responsibilities to continue to develop. Yak and Santini may lack data, but are far better options than Greene and LJ who are heavily digressing into irrelevance.

Would love to try and poach Kapanen from Tor as our #2 RW. They can't afford him next year, and the kid was fantastic in a top 6 role. The leafs could really use some affordable D, and goaltending depth. Maybe we could send KK, Mueller, Mcleod or Zacha their way....
