Pistol Pete - we've already been through the 'why are we looking for faults' phase of posts ... Jets are, after all - as of noon today - 4th in league, 2nd in West (by 2 pts with 3 games in hand), and 1st in Central .... some things are going right

So I get the point that Helle is facing too many hi-opp shots ... D zone coverage is suffering

Here's what I think we should do - - - 3 lists - "GOOD", "AVERAGE", and "BAD" ... what parts of the game are Jets excelling at, what parts are near league average, and what parts are Jets weak (e.g. giving up too many dangerous shots on net)

Not sure we've looked at this in the aggregate or collectively ... these points have been spread over many posts ... could be time for a 'snapshot' or 'scorecard'

What the blogs should really be about is how we compare with the three teams ahead of us in the standings. Are we as good as Tampa Bay? Are we the best Canadian team, or have Calgary and Toronto passed us? One thing I can definitively say is that the three teams ahead of us all have one thing we don't and that is solid depth at center. I have been on this point for the last couple of years. Until we get a center that can do a 1B role, we are not going to win the cup.

Duschene? Great face off % in addition to everything else. Are you willing to give up another 1st?......

in a heartbeat! If we win the cup, that pick will end up being the 31st pick overall. This team has enough prospects.

I would, but I don’t know we’re in any position to give up our 1st now. Too many holes to fill, not enough coming up from the Moose. It’s Vesalainen, Niku, and Poolman. Everyone else is 2+ years.

Vesalainen replaces Tanev
Niku replaces Chiarot
Poolman replaces Myers
That still leaves the Kulikov replacement when he’s dumped or bought out

USA playing for gold, Samberg on D looked pretty good at breaking up the Russian late period charge. Looks like he was playing the right side (left hand shot) and the left side.

Maybe he can play the right side. Looked ok in a 2 - 1 game.

While the circumstances are unfavourable, the Copp-Scheifele-Wheeler line a requested now exists. I will be accepting apologies and comments about how pretty I look today

Edit*
While I’m here, I need to make a comment on our 2nd line. Laine is spending way too much time having to backcheck, and Little is in over his head. They are putting in the work. Kyle (Isyaboi) Connor has been cold for a long time, and he isn’t doing anything at all in any zone. He needs to be moved off that line, or eating some bench. I say that having literally just picked up my Connor aviator jersey an hour ago.

I’ve watched a lot of Samberg in this tourney. Looks like he plays a very solid, smart defensive game. Rarely out of position and makes a nice first pass.

Copp and Perreault for that matter should not play with 55&26. They have no hands or finish just like wheeler. Those combos may put up nice anylitics and possession stats but won’t produce. All the pressure to score will solely be on 55. Your top line should have at least two guys who can score. The right answer is to now split up 55&26!!! And since I kinda know you by now, don’t even try to come at me with “copp scores at a high rate with these guys” copp has never scored ten goals in a season yet and to say someone who has yet to reach even ten goals and high scoring rate in the same sentence would be lunacy.

I am starting to give up on Little and am now in the we need another Center camp. But please no Brassard!!!! He sucks.
Duchene
Carter
Staal (either )
Schenn
Would all be fine.

I’d love Cotourier but that’s asking too much.

Perreault isn’t a goal scorer, and that is not his use. He creates chances like a madman, drives play like a god, and defends really well. He’s not your scorer.

With Copp, I say this: Let’s remember the tales of Willam Karlsson and Johnathan Marchessault.
-William Karlsson scored 9 goals and 25 points ONCE, and not at the same time. Then Vegas happened.
-Marchessault looked doomed to be an AHL lifer before securing his first full time gig at peak age, scored 30 for Florida, and now he’s a top line player.

You can use those examples for any player, copp was not even a goal scorer in college.

I would do this because I don’t see Trouba signing here but I highly doubt Philly would.

I'm with you Ross. Copp is and will be a lifetime 3rd/4th liner...nothing more. Hands of stone. That Copp on top line experiment didn't even last a period. Stupid idea in the first place.

Perreault's stock is dropping like a stone. Perfect examples tonight . He shoots 3 feet wide on a point-blank chance and must have missed at least a dozen passes tonight. Same thing we see from him most nights. Ok on PP. I now consider him overpaid. If it wasn't for the recent injuries I'd say trade him. Better value elsewhere. If not now then at end of the season.

If Ehlers didn't get injured tonight I think Maurice should move Laine down to fourth line but still use him on the first PP. He drags everyone he plays with down with him. Put Roslovic in his spot...or virtually ANYONE else . Jets have two good lines. Our top line and our checking line ( TLC) . On the road , opponents can just cover off our top line with their checking line and then put their best lines against our second line...and avoid penalties. It's not a tough formula. We need a better second line and Laine is not helping....demote him for a while ....make him wake up and start playing some hockey and moving his feet. I don't see it as Littles fault. Laine is just plain terrible 5 vs 5.

Kulikov wrist, Ehlers possible separate shoulder or collarbone injury. Buff out for another 2 weeks. Now about to face some divisional opponents. It's a good thing Jets have some breathing room in the standings.

Tanev has 8 goals 6 assist for 14 points, most consistent line mates Copp, Perreault and Lowry. Tanev has a PPG of .35

Andrew Copp has 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points, I understand that he’s only played 27 games, he has a PPG of .22. Copp’s Most consistent line mates, Lowry, Tanev, Roslovic.

I think it’s safe to say that Tanev has easily surpassed Copp on the depth chart. It would be interesting to see what would happen to Copp if Trouba were not his best friend. Perhaps guys like Petan and Appleton would get real shots?

Laine and Perreault should be put together. They literally complete each other perfectly. Laine is a goal scoring juggernaut who cannot yet create space for himself, and needs help getting open. Perreault creates chances constantly, and draws defenders to him by being impossible to get off the puck. Anyone who thinks Laine and Perreault are the problems on their respective lines clearly can’t see what’s going on out there, nor are they properly researching their points before making them. This is not a jab at you personally, but an observation of our fan base as a whole. Maurice is still 1000% to blame for our forward f*ckery

Perfect. Put them both together on the fourth line where they currently deserve to be based on their play, and move Roslovic up to second with Little.

Yep, both off to the 4th line. Laine should have been there weeks ago. I hope Ehlers isn't out too long because we sure miss him driving the opposition back. His speed is missed bigtime.

The second line centre is a big hole. We need an upgrade there.
