I was born in 1982 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and was wondering if any Habitant fans have an opinion on the 1989 nhl mvp trophy going to Gretzky instead of Lemieux, when Mario scored 39 more points ( all goals ) and the Canadian (Toronto) voters pu giving the award to Wayne. I realize you can say Wayne saved LA hockey, but those numbers were astronomical and that Mario recurved only 17 first place votes and was completely left off of two voted with those numbers is asinine.

Probably because the Pens finished the season with the 5th lowest point total in the NHL, generally the MVP is awarded to a player who's team actually had success... by definition it makes very little sense to award it to a player on a bottom feeding team
