Ryan, a question...

If you HAD to pick an attribute that Jack Johnson brings to the Penguins that is positive (stay with me here, but you HAVE TO say something), what would that be?

I really wish there was a way to get a decent RD for the 3rd pair.

Ha! maybe...

I think there are some very doable options though. I just don't expect the Pens to get any new dmen.

Not unless they are looking to move forward depth from WB/S or Kessel.

What does Rikkola play? I never paid attention

Well, he's a natural LD, but he's played RD with Maatta. The Pens IMO need a true right-handed dman for their bottom pair.

I guess that was where I was confused. I do like his game though.

Who is on your list?

Trevor Van Riemsdyk, Mark Pysyk and Connor Murphy(a little pricey) come to mind. Now, I have nothing that says they're available, but I think they'd be good fits.

I know most folks feelings on bringing back former Penguins but I am going to throw out a name.

Mind you, GMJR said he was looking to add a bit of toughness with any deals...

Robert Bortuzzo.

I do have to admit that when Ek said the Pens had intrest in Parayko I got a little jumpy.

That would be amazing, but I don't see it happening.

I wonder if Oleksiak for TVR would be something Carolina would be interested in? A playoff blue line of this would be something I’d be pretty confident in:

Dumoulin-Letang
Maatta-Schultz
Pettersen-TVR
Johnson

Even if we pull that trade off, I'm sure JJ would find a way in the line up, which is disappointing because that is a blueline I can get behind.

From Mackey's article

The Pens record through each of their cup-winning seasons at the midpoint:

"1990-91 … 20-17-3, 43 points

1991-92 … 22-14-4, 48 points

2008-09 … 19-17-4, 42 points

2015-16 … 19-16-5, 43 points - (frank) YOU JOHNSTON

2016-17 … 26-9-5, 57 points"

So another bottom pairing defenseman that lacks puck moving skills. Sounds ideal.

I remember when he was an improvement over Orpik...

But, if we can swing JJ for Bortuzzo, do you fight that trade?

Of course not because Bortuzzo is cheaper and possibly (?) better than JJ

We were talking about Rino’s desire for a third pairing natural RD. I added that GMJR was looking to add toughness to offset the Trashcan Wilson factor. He is not my first choice for sure, but he fits the conversation that was being had.

I also said I liked the Parayko talk too.
