We were talking about Rino’s desire for a third pairing natural RD. I added that GMJR was looking to add toughness to offset the Trashcan Wilson factor. He is not my first choice for sure, but he fits the conversation that was being had.

I also said I liked the Parayko talk too.

Can you link me to GMJR quoted looking for toughness?

If I remember correctly, Mackey actually wrote a thing about how the Penguins WERENT going to go out of their way to trade for someone specifically to counteract Wilson. That Avenue was explored with Ryan Reaves already and didn’t pan out.

I agree with that, if a deal is to be made I would prefer top end as opposed to someone to slow them down.

Great to see Schultz on the ice skating.

I wonder if Oleksiak for TVR would be something Carolina would be interested in? A playoff blue line of this would be something I’d be pretty confident in:

Dumoulin-Letang
Maatta-Schultz
Pettersen-TVR
Johnson

- Victoro311

I think that would be profoundly improved.

Is the thought of moving Oleksiak based on gotta give something to get something, or has he played himself outnof favor after signing his deal.

Both? I also think that Pettersson may be making Olekisak superfluous.

Oleksiak seems to be the best and nearly only guy willing to mix it up though. NOT THAT, THAT IS SOLELY IMPORTANT, but just saying.

Pettersson has been pretty damn good. A good get.

I would have to agree that JO is the best of the bottom pairing bunch too.

Maatta, to me, is still the guy to trade. The drop-off from Maatta to JO/Pettersson/Riikola is manageable and Maatta should have way more trade value.

Couldn't disagree more. The dropoff is huge.

I know Pettersson's current numbers don't support it, but I think if the Pens had a true RD on their third pair on the level of someone like TVR, Pettersson would be very good in that role. I know you have trepidations about Pettersson.

Great. Team is winning and JJ still sucks. More of the same around here. Scape goats as usual.

Absolutely disagree. Maatta is a very good 2nd pairing guy and I think he’s gonna be the Dumo to Schultz when he comes back.

So are you saying you don’t want to improve the team to make them even better come playoff time? You don’t like to identify team weaknesses and try to improve upon them?

Here's the thing. The team is winning, but what they're doing is not sustainable. Special Teams and Goaltending are stealing the show, but they are still playing mediocre hockey at ES; that will eventually catch up to them when goaltending or special teams takes a dip.

Special Teams will dry up for periods even on top teams and Goaltending will have it's ups and down. Real contenders have the ability to pick up the slack when those take a downturn. The Pens need to shore up certain areas of the lineup to make that happen and currently, JJ is a weak spot.

The truth is it's all a moot point since JJ is not playing horrible and ain't getting traded right after signing a big deal with us. He's not in the Hunwick territory as much as some here would like to say. I could see Oleksiak going instead since he's easier to trade.

Yeah when the Johnson signing broke people torched us with the same "give him a chance" "when he comes in and is good you guys will refuse to admit it" bullpoop as usual. Low and behold he sucks, and those same people that said we wouldn't be able to admit he was good are the ones that refuse to admit they were wrong. Not shocked at all.

it was possible to string along hainsey and limit his minutes in the playoffs. given the sheer size of minutes being force-fed to johnson with jultzy out, thats just not possible. he's so (frank)ing sh!t, the cole ----> hunwick ----> JJ progression makes the s&p500's performance in Q4 look (frank)ing phenomenal

He is worse than hunwick and costs more. You're delusional to think otherwise.

Edit... making me do graphs off my phone. Hunwick > Johnson. No comparison.
